Get Crafty in Dundee

Craft

The Scottish Arts Council (SAC) have teamed up with Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art here in Dundee to offer 3 Craft practitioners the opportunity to undertake a 3 month residency at DOJ.

As part of the Craft Creative Development Awards, the lovely people at the SAC will fund you up to 10K to make some nice new work (although I think its only fair to point out that DOJ take 5K to cover the cost of housing, equipping and supporting you, so you actually only get up to 5K – which to my mind is still pretty dam good considering what you get). The fruits of your labour will be shown off to the world at the 2010 Craft Festival Exhibition, which I might add, will be super cool Craft along the lines of interactive jewellery and technofied textiles – not knitted doilies and cross stitch lavender cushions like your granny makes.

We’ll leave that long running debate on the definition of ‘Craft’ for now, the Academics and Organisers like to haul that one from time to time, usually regurgitating the same old arguments and opinions without ever really coming to a conclusion whilst those of us who actually make the stuff are too busy to really get involved…but I digress…

The college offers you studio space, technical support and access to all its coolest gadgets and gizmos, from digital printers and laser cutters, to electroplating contraptions and flocking machines.

So, if you are a Maker and fancy updating your portfolio, getting to grips with some new techniques and taking part in an International Craft Showcase all courtesy of the SAC and DOJ then RSVP here. FAB.
