NEoN 2012 Field Notes #2: 0800-GRL-DRMZ

, at

NEoN 2012 gathers further speed tonight, as well as ramping up the entertainment factor, when the Hannah Maclure Centre hosts Catrin Jeans and Sarah Messenger’s mainstream pop trash and celebrity culture mash up 0800-GRL-DRMZ! To accompany this uniquely placed event/concept/new artistic paradigm the kind folks at the HMC will be laying on a selection of warming Autumnal food and drink, alongside some Bonfire night-themed projections. The fun starts at 7.30pm – do not this very special one-off event!

Catrin Jeans is interested in being a house-hold brand name. Her work and image manifests itself in performances and events, where she adopts roles and guises as a means of communicating tabloid and pop culture. Recently she was the mastermind behind Crawl Inclusive – an art crawl through Dundee taking in the best temporary art spaces in the city and culminating in an almighty party in one of Dundee’s oldest pubs which will live long in the memory of all who were there. Catrin also took the Crawl Inclusive concept to the Liverpool Biennial earlier this year. Have a look at her Pecha Kucha talk to get a further idea of what drives this very unique artist.

Sarah Messenger wishes to become the internet. She loves the Internet and the Internet loves her. Working together with Tumblr and video editing to create her work, Sarah produces intense, day-glo collages of film and image that have to be seen to be believed. For NEoN 2012 Catrin and Sarah will be showing their own variety programme and launching the official 0800-GRL-DRMZ shop, where you can acquire offical 0800-GRL-DRMZ merch! The live interaction of process and product will allow the artists to actively explore the overlaps and boundaries between the two. Can 0800-GRLDRMZ, as artists, be a brand? One that can be marketed, sold and destined for fame? Come along tonight and find out!
