Creative Dundee

Dundee designer meets NYC

Nikki_mcwilliams

Nikki McWilliams, fabulous homeware designer and DJCAD graduate, is set to embark on a mission to take her bright & witty homeware brand to the North American markets this April.

Nikki has been selected amongst a handful of other Scottish companies to participate in the forthcoming North America Trade Mission with Scottish Development International.  Delegates from the chosen companies will visit New York and Toronto to investigate new sales avenues for their businesses.

‘We’re really excited to have been selected to participate in the mission. We’ve already got customers in North America and we’re hoping to build on that during our time overseas in April.  We’re so proud that our products are designed and made in Scotland and we want to share that with a wider audience.’ says Nikki.

Having studied at DJCAD between 2003 – 2008, Nikki decided that Dundee was the right place to set up her design business soon after graduating.

‘I’d planned on moving to Glasgow once I’d got my degree- however when I looked around me the creative community in Dundee was thriving and I wanted to stay a part of that. Running a design business from outside of London is by no means impossible now with the internet on your side. Dundee’s rail links with London are brilliant if you do need to visit in person too. With the V&A at Dundee on the horizon there’s even more reasons for creatives to build a career for themselves here’.

Nikki’s range of handmade cushions, homeware and accessories are available to buy in selected retail stores across the UK and directly from her studio at www.nikkimcwilliams.com.

You can keep up to date with Nikki’s progress throughout her trip by following her Twitter & Instagram posts @nikkimcwilliams which she will be updating during the Mission between the 2nd and 9th of April 2013.
