#WhoMadeMyClothes – Fashion Revolution Dundee

2nd year Textile Design student at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Lucy Caster, calls the people of Dundee to join the Fashion Revolution, which will launch on the 26th of April outside the Dundee University Student’s Association, University of Dundee.

Lucy was originally inspired by Fashion Revolution through the film, True Cost, shown at a special lecture during her studies and swiftly contacted the campaigners to be part of the revolution. The film captures how fast fashion can exploit people all over the world and looks at environmental issues in interviews with the world’s leading influencers campaigning for the Fashion Revolution; including Stella McCartney, Livia Firth and Vandana Shiva.

Lucy is now one of over 60 Fashion Revolution ambassadors worldwide, representing our city of Dundee. Fashion Revolution are spreading the word of the fast fashion industry through the hashtag #WhoMadeMyClothes, raising facts such as:

Lucy Caster said, “The film really makes you think about fast fashion, it has really made an impact on me. Although there are great ways to recycle and upcycle your clothes, people haven’t really got that mind-set yet. Fashion Revolution aims to do just that. We hope that our message lasts and that people continue to spread the word.”

Fashion Revolution initially came about after the 2013 Bangladesh clothing factory collapse which left 1,134 dead and over 2000 injured, an event which has also affected Lucy as she reflected on her decision to pursue a career in textiles.

“Being aware of the human and environmental impact that the textile industry has seems so important to me, if I am to work in this industry. I feel like I can’t ignore this”.

Fashion Revolution Dundee takes place on the 26th of April at the Dundee University Student’s Association on the University of Dundee’s campus. Lucy will have a stall and ask students to take a selfie, showing the label of their clothes, using the hashtag #WhoMadeMyClothes. Whilst the stall is at the University, Lucy is keen for anyone in Dundee who feels passionate about the issue to join in and take their own selfie and upload it with the hashtag.
