Dundee Soup #2

Dundee Soup is back! This event gives micro grants to local community based projects to make ideas a reality, over a simple supper dinner. The second Dundee Soup will take place on Thursday 14th December 2017 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm at The Circle.

UPDATE: Recovery Dundee were the winning recipients of the £200 micro-grant at the December Dundee Soup – well done to them and thanks to all four of the projects who pitched on the night. Read more about Recovery Dundee in the Evening Telegraph here.

For a suggested donation of £5, attendees receive a simple soup supper and hear up to four short presentations from local people running community projects. These can range from art, urban agriculture, social justice, social entrepreneurs, education, technology and much more. At the end of the night, everyone votes on their preferred project, the ballots are counted and winner goes home with ALL of the money raised on the night to develop their project! Winners come back to a future Dundee Soup dinner to report on their project’s progress.

The format is simple – up to:

Dundee Soup dinners are open to anyone: whether you need help for an idea that could benefit the Dundee community or whether you want to support a local community-based project.

Lifegate Tea Dance, who provide a place for older people to gather and socialise, was the first winner of Dundee Soup’s micro community grant in April 2017 and will be there to share what’s been happening over the last few months – as well as the guys from Upportunity!

The projects pitching on the night are:

Recovery Dundee

Recovery Dundee is the first independent recovery community in Dundee. We worked alongside the Scottish recovery consortium this year and where the local host for the national Scottish Recovery Walk 2017, which has seen over 1500 people walk through our city celebrating recovery from addiction. We have 3 aims 1) Ability to care 2) Putting a face on Recovery 3) Building a Recovery capital. Essentially building long term sustainable recovery. Connecting ppl with their passions, giving back and contributing positively to our local community. Challenging stigma that prevents people seeking treatment.

Dundee Bairns Tea Club

The Bairns Tea Club project will help to address the closing of the poverty related educational attainment gap and the lack of hot nutritious meals for children living in relative poverty. It is widely recognised that children from families who are experiencing poverty, have much less chance to achieve and attain their full potential. A persistent attainment gap has developed between children from families who do and do not experience financial hardship.

Coats n Quilts

The project aims to encourage donations of coats. The coats that are collected will be cleaned sorted in preparation for giving to our service users. At a later date we hope to supply new quilts also. I will also have a coffee n coat event for the pensioners and organisations to help and support this project At the coffee and coat event I hope to be able to chat to the pensioners to offer support and advice.

Maureen Phillip – Voice, Visual & Sounds

This project is about creating multi-sensory stories to help those who cannot otherwise access them.

You can take part by either pitching or simply coming along, to enjoy good food in good company and know your £5 will go into a collective pot for a good cause that you will help choose!

Book your place for Dundee Soup here or if you’d like the opportunity to present on the night, then fill in the below short proposal form and we’ll be back in touch after the deadline. [UPDATE: Dundee Soup is no longer accepting submissions but you can still attend the event!]

About Soups

The first SOUP was developed in Detroit in 2010 with a group of artists’ friends gathered around a dinner to share ideas about art challenges, finding innovative solutions and imperfect ideas for projects that were hard to discover funding for. Over the years, Detroit SOUP has moved from funding artists to a wide variety of community members that need a little money to start their projects and the challenging ideas pushed people to think about the city in different ways.
