Creative Dundee

Ex Libris Book Fair is a first

, at

Glasgow Womens Library 1

This year’s Dundee Literary Festival has a brand new book fair… Ex Libris Book Fair will showcase the wide variety of ways in which creators are working within the medium of books; from hand-stitched folios to digitally printed comics. It will feature independent comics, small presses, and artists’ book makers from all around the country.

During the event on Sunday 26th October, Glasgow Women’s Library will present a talk giving insights into the inception and creation of their new release “21 Revolutions”, featuring the work of 21 women artists and writers. Following this, Maggie McGeary will discuss her experience as a first time publisher, and the creation of her poetry anthology that aims to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Exhibitors include comic creators Neil Slorance, Stephen Goodall, and MooMac Comics; zines by Dundee’s own Plastik, Becca Clark, and Ruth Aitken; illustrators Tracey Smith, Emseeitch, and Carolyn Alexander; independent small presses Honey Press and Tapsaleerie; artist book makers Joanna Robson, Susan Mortimer, and Devin Wallace.

Organising this event are Kathryn Briggs and Nicola Prosser. Kathryn, a graphic novelist, is the owner of Dundee-based Ess Publications, an independent publishing company that focuses on books which bridge the gap between art and comics. Nicola is a Glasgow based artist and the designer for Generator Publications, the publishing wing of Dundee’s artist-led gallery GENERATORprojects. Their shared passion for books and book making inspired them to create Ex Libris Book Fair.

“It’s the innovation and creativity of the Scottish book scene that inspired us to put on Ex Libris. Our exhibitors are producing books and comics out of their passion for the medium, and it shows”.

Event date: Sunday 26 October 2014, 10am – 3pm

Location: Bonar Hall, University of Dundee, Dundee
