The Garden of Evolution by Lily Hassioti

, at

4th year Fine Art student at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Lily Hassioti has produced an interactive installation for her final year project.

The Garden of Evolution’ in Dundee Botanic Gardens, aims to engage with its audience and discusses the role of technology in the evolution of man, extending the human senses and re-shaping communications.

Viewers enter a conversation with their surroundings as well as the artist by scanning QR codes found within the paths of the garden. The sounds and voice messages accompany them during their walk, with their phones close to their ear to enhance the experience. It is a process of exploration calling the visitors to decode the hidden messages. The QR codes work as connectors between the physical and the digital, augmenting reality and bringing an additional layer to the life to the garden.

The Garden of Evolution previews on Thursday 28th April with a garden party from 4pm-7pm. Entrance to this event is free.

The exhibition then runs daily from Friday 29th April until Wednesday 11th May, and then Friday 20th May until Friday 27th May from 10am-4.30pm at the regular admission price.

The exhibition is within the ‘Evolution Garden’ of Dundee Botanic Gardens, Riverside Drive. More information is available on the Facebook event page here.
