Make/Share – September Line-Up

Make/Share is back this month with an exciting line-up! Join us on Wed 14 Sept at The Beer Kitchen Dundee, from 7pm – 8.30pm, to hear short talks by people about the processes behind turning their project or product into a reality. Speakers explore how their project or product has evolved, progressed, changed and transformed, how they experiment, what their biggest challenges have been and how they overcame them.

Short talks include the opportunity to show and demo your work. Just bring them along on the night – or share your upcoming events with the group, we’ll make sure to tweet about them. After the talks we have a short opportunity for any questions and discussion.

Watch a short film and see speakers from previous nights here.

We’re also delighted to let you know that The Beer Kitchen is our official sponsor venue for Make/Share and supporting the event with a complementary 2/3 schooner.

You don’t need to sign up, just come along!

Speakers this time include:

Leona-Jayne Kelly

Leona is owner of Fluph, an independant yarn shop on Blackness Road. She recently started a new venture: her own range of hand-dyed yarn, which appeals to her “art student side” where she gets to puddle in water, play with colour and explore the limits of hand-dyed yarn palettes. Colour is her obsession; mixing various dyes, finding out through trial and error what works (and what doesn’t) then bringing them together into a unique colourway to knit with. She’ll talk about her new indie dyed yarn range, and explain how it came into existence, how it compliments Fluph, and why she loves it so much! Jaime Bonilla

Jaime has just finished the MSC Medical Art and does illustrations, 3D modelling and animations for Medical related subjects as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology and many others. He has been constructing the inner structure of the nasal cavity including the lateral nasal wall which has a very intricate anatomy, and has 3D printed the bones to make a model where future surgeons can be trained. Ian Abbott

Ian can often be found rummaging in other fields of thought and hunting for things to translate, repackage and enhance. He has been working in the performing arts for the past 15 years as a Producer, Manager, Writer and Director; he also has a shadowy parallel practice – that of a book binder. Tonight Matthew, he’ll be sharing his Autumn/Winter 2016 Collection of Vintage Comic Notebooks, the processes involved in making them and examples of previous works, collaborations and adventures in alternative formats. Website: thegeometrician | Twitter: @TheGeometrician

Alastair Low

Alistair is a game artist Ninja Kiwi and a director at Dundee Makerspace. He likes making things from games, hardware mods, action figures to electronic and 3d printed instruments and everything in between. He is a massive blender 3d fan and also runs and participates in game jams. Website: lowtek | Twitter: @Wallmasterr
