Venue: Dundee Central Library // Dates: September 4th // Time: 6pm-7:30 // Free

Story Cafe is a monthly event at Dundee Central Library where you get to read and discuss short stories. They launched in August 2016, and have been reading and analysing stories ever since. The selection has been eclectic and included stories by Raymond Carver, A.M. Homes, Franz Kafka, and Flannery O’Connor, amongst others.

The group is open to anyone who enjoys short fiction and thinks deeply about what they read. The members range from those who are only just discovering short stories to seasoned readers of the form. All opinions are welcome and you can say as much or as little as you like during the open discussion.

One of the group organiser explains: “Our meetings are thought provoking, often surreal, and always focused on the stories. We seldom reach a consensus, which is part of the reason our conversations are so interesting! Through dissecting new fiction every month we find stories we love (and some we don’t!), writers we want to read more from, and we hone our reading skills, deepening our understanding of the cogs at work in short fiction.

On Setpember 4th the group will meet to discuss ‘The Last Judgement‘ by Karel Čapek and ‘Bartleby, The Scrivener‘ by Herman Melville. You can join them in September or any first Monday of the upcoming months.
