WASPS Creative Pop Up Weekend

, at

The Dundee Creative Pop Up event is happening this weekend courtesy of the gang at WASPS Dundee (WASPS provide studio space for artists and designers across Scotland and the well-established base in Dundee have come together to create this event). This Pop Up gives you chance to look inside the studios and in many cases, buy and try cool things! From ‘painting, drawing, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, jewellery, printmaking and much much more’.

If you are already familiar with their annual open studios, you can expect this to be bigger and more diverse than ever before! Along with the resident WASPS artists and designers, they have invited many other interesting cultural and creative folks to join in and use extra spaces to host performances, workshops and exhibitions.

The Pop Up takes place over Saturday 1 – Sunday 2 October (12-5pm), and you’ll find an amazing range of things to buy, make and enjoy across 3 venues: Airlie Place, Meadow Mill and Douglas Court. The beauty is that these venues are just a few minutes walk away from each other, so you won’t miss out on any of the creative wonders on offer!

WASPS normal residence, Meadow Mill, is currently undergoing a £1.5million makeover; and next year when the building fully re-opens, there will be a brand new exhibition space, project space and a much anticipated and welcomed elevator!

Speaking about the Pop Up, Jen Robson one WASPS exhibiting artists thinks ‘As a group, we are always attending each other’s events, supporting the creative happenings in Dundee… Dundee also has a massive cultural community of independent makers and artists, who are collaborating every day and working together exchanging skills and creating projects far and wide. We thought it would make an exciting event and encourage more people to come along and see what a great creative community we have here by opening up the event to creative people across the city.’

Jen hopes that this event which has invited special guest artists, musicians, writers and makers, will be an opportunity to showcase work and gives a unique chance for people to peek inside the worlds of the artists.

‘We hope that this is the start of WASPS being a cultural hub of activity for the city and we hope to have more events like this around the year before our big re-opening next year’ says Jen.

We hope so to Jen!
