Pavlova’s Dogs, Fur & Love Games

That caught your attention! Don’t worry Creative Dundee hasn’t changed direction or been hacked, this is the new collection of work by Scottish Dance Theatre…

Pavlova’s Dogs, alongside a programme of 3 shorter works will be showing in Dundee before going on UK tour. So here is a little more on each piece:

Pavlova’s Dogs has been inspired by Pavlov’s theory and creator Rachel Lopez de la Neita’s interest in the ‘humour you can find in the absurdity of human behaviour’.

My Sweet Little Fur by Israeli choreographer, Idan Cohen, is a solo presenting a dialogue between a man and the hounds residing in him. An intelligent piece arousing questions about cultural behaviour versus animalistic ones.

Drift by James Wilton is an ‘impressively powerful’ duet exploring loneliness and closeness, absolute commitment and high risk trust. A brooding and explosive work which delights audiences with its highly charged physicality, and the daring surprises the dancers throw at each other.

Love Games by Joan Cleville and All in the Grip by Natalie Trewinnard are two works created by SDT dancers as part of Under Construction 2010. Playful and powerful in different ways audiences will be treated to the choreographic skill and talent coming from within the company.

And it’s a slightly teary start to Spring as it’s the final season with Janet Smith as Artistic Director at the helm. After 14 years as SDT’s Artistic Director, Janet is off to be Principal at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds.

During that fourteen years, the company has grown from the small scale Dundee Rep Dance Company with 5 part time dancers and 3 full time staff into Scottish Dance Theatre; Scotland’s leading contemporary dance company which now employs 9 full time dancers, 2 apprentices and 10 office staff, presenting highly acclaimed work across the world.

Pretty impressive stuff indeed – all the very best Janet and keep up the great work SDT!
