Let The Right One In… Before the doors close…

All we can really say about Let The Right One In is, it’s amazing.  With a beautiful story and characters, ace sound design and a haunting set to boot, this dynamic production brought to Dundee by National Theatre of Scotland in association with Dundee Rep is also embracing digital to ensure that it truly is a leading light…

This major new production is a tender, funny and brutal love story following the relationship between Oskar, a lonely bullied teenage boy and Eli, a centuries old young vampire who befriends him. This stage adaptation by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany is based on the cult Swedish novel and screenplay of the film by John Ajvide Lindqvist.

Not only is LTROI a super slick production, NTS also invited social media folks to attend a

They also worked in collaboration with local digital developers Quartic Llama on Other Dundee – a free to download game which navigates you around Dundee and invites you to play and solve challenges, which is also very cool – you can read our previous blog on this here, or read the Guardian’s coverage, here.

Their analogue Other Dundee tour of the city took place over one weekend and was also a lot of fun but spooky too. Guided around the city late Friday night, we came across the beautifully grim and familiar looking ‘ladies’ pictured below. The most chilling part of the night for me was walking through a school playground and a freaky schoolchild came from nowhere and attached himself to my arm and then wouldn’t let go, for ages – yes I tried to run and screamed, loudly…

So, back to LTROI, don’t just take our word for it, check out Beautiful Dundee’s feature here; Hazel White’s interesting take on the production as a design for service which engages audiences, here; and check out some storify quotes below.

Let’s hope that this production encourages more hybrid cultural and digital mash-ups like this – immersive theatre at its very best!
