Dundee Mini Make-Off, a unique one day event inspired by Pop Up Scotland’s Great Scottish Make Off, takes place on Saturday 24 September in Dundee’s Vision Building. The event aims to engage local communities via the medium of making, and will showcase local makers – highlighting the benefits of making by bringing the two together in a fun, friendly environment.

The day will form around ticketed workshops which include; a puppet building workshop with How It Felt; a painting workshop with iArtSupplies; a sun printing workshop with Kit Martin; Leatherwork with Rosemary Head; and Screenprinting with Selection Box – a group of artists and designers based in Dundee. All ticketed workshops will incur a fee. You can book your tickets on Dundee Mini Make-Off’s website by clicking here.

In addition to ticketed workshops, the day will also include free drop-in sessions where attendees can learn finger knitting, lino printing, experimental crochet and Hapa Zome Natural Dyeing in the morning. The afternoon drop-in sessions include embellished paper collage making, designing zines, and a sewing workshop with Say It Aint Sew. You can learn more about the drop-in sessions and what times they take place by clicking here.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to shop local artists at POPDundee‘s Pop-Up Shop, browse delicious snacks from Clean Little Eats, and stock up on quirky craft materials from SCRAPantics. The Tayberry Gallery, Spex Pistols, Tangled Up in Blue and Gallery48 are among the local businesses awarding prizes and special features for their favourite selling artists!

The day will also feature an exhibition of work which includes print, sculpture, photography and more. It has been carefully curated by Kirsty Dalton of the Tin Makers Collective, who hopes to inspire make-off visitors to get making and show their work.

Selected Dundee Makers will be demonstrating their craft live all day, and the event will include a live Make-Off Competition. The theme of the competition is yet to be announced, but will take place in the Maker Arena for everyone to see. The day will close with the judging of the Make-Off competition. Judges from a range of creative industries in Dundee will award a selection of prizes for the winning make.
