Space to Experiment at Hapworks_00

Find out what’s happening next at Hapworks_00 as we return to weekly coworking and launch Hapworks Takeovers!

In this next phase for Hapworks_00, we are excited to test another aspect of our long term vision with a focus on events hire and programme. As we continue to look for permanent creative workspace, we know the value of having a visible, affordable, and well connected city centre space for the creative sector to share and develop their work.

Our hope going forward is to continue to occupy 7 Castle Street and offer the space as a venue to the creative community as we scope out future spaces to host anchor tenants and build better and more accessible options for coworking. To help facilitate this we need to demonstrate not only the social value of Hapworks_00 but also the demand and financial sustainability of the model.

Although we’ve already offered event hire and used the space to host our own programme of events, more time will now be focused on working with others to animate the space, creating exciting opportunities for us to come together to campaign for more creative space and work collectively to make it happen.

Hapworks Takeovers

Between September and December, we will also be co-ordinating a series of monthly Hapworks Takeovers that will provide free, short term creative space to informal groups, collectives and grassroots organisations based in Dundee to test experimental creative projects, new approaches, and bring new audiences to the space.

We’ll be sharing more details very soon but we’re already so excited to be welcoming el search: 3 x 3 and the big nine to the space for a night of experimental sounds, and are getting ready to celebrate with Dundee Print Collective for their 10th birthday!

Weekly Coworking

Following on from the success of our monthly coworking days over summer, we are delighted to offer coworking once a week, every Wednesday from 4 September until 4 December! Join us to mix up your week, work alongside others and make new connections. You can find out more and purchase your Day Passes on the Hapworks website.

Coworking was the primary focus of our pilot phase earlier this year and although our temporary space was not able to meet everyone’s needs, it successfully demonstrated the demand and value of creative workspace for people to meet and work alongside others. We now have a better understanding of what people want and need from a future space, how it would operate, and proof of demand which has been really valuable while we develop a business case for our long term plans.

We’re looking forward to testing more of what this space can offer to our city’s creative networks, and hope to keep welcoming new faces to Hapworks_00 for coworking, events, or just to pop-in and say hello. If you’d like to read more about the Hapworks journey so far, we reflected on the initial pilot phase in our blog Hapworks: What’s Next?, or head to the Hapworks website for more about the shared vision for creative space in Dundee.

Hapworks has been enabled by Creative Dundee with support from Creative Scotland’s Recovery Fund for Cultural Organisations and Dundee City Council’s Vacant to Vibrant initiative.
