- Immerse yourself in the world of ‘Curtain Call’ and theatrical storytelling with illustrator Laura Darling for a two-part Character Design Workshop at McManus on Mon 8 and 15 June.
- Dundee Book Festival is back from Fri 19–Sun 21 June with a packed line-up including a few talented folks from our Amps Network – Erin Farley, Taylor Dyson, Cat MacLeod, and Cally Booker – all sharing their work!
- Head to The Mill, Dundee between Sat 20–Sun 28 June for Between Stone and Sun, a new exhibition of eleven artists including local sculptor and visual artist Paola McClure.
- Book your ticket to join Aileen Angsutorn Lees for the launch of new Decolonising The Outdoors book, Tectonics, at Edinburgh Art Festival on Thu 2 July.
Events
- Get ready for Dundee’s first ever Play Festival from Thu 11–Sun 14 June celebrating International Day of Play! There’s over 50 free events to enjoy across the city for a whole weekend of games, creativity, sports and play!
- As part of Healing Arts Scotland, Art Angel, University of Dundee and Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust are hosting a PechaKucha-style event on Tue 16 June exploring the creative and collaborative work that connects art and health in the city. Tickets are free and there are £100 Freelancer Bursaries available to help offset participation costs.
- Join DCA for a slow-looking, guided Exhibition Tour of ‘Francis Dosoo: Portrait of Dorothy Gale’ and ‘Adrián Balseca: In the Forest Ruins’ with Head of Exhibitions, Dan Brown on Thu 25 June.
- Happy Pride Month! Dundee Pride returns on Sat 27 June and there’s still plenty of time to get involved with a stall in their Pride Market or volunteering to help out on the day. Keep an eye on their socials for all the details on a huge lineup!
Workshops
- Join Dundee Changemakers Hub and facilitator Ravideep Kaur for Politics of Rest on Wed 10 June – a workshop and conversation critically reflecting on how rest is shaped by wider social, political and economic systems.
- Head to Forgan Arts Centre on Sat 20 and Sun 21 June for a two-day Lino Printing Wallpaper Workshop with artist Zoe Gibson! Leave with enough wallpaper to paper a small area of your home and the techniques to keep printing.
- Join Culture for Climate Scotland online for their next Green Tease workshop on Wed 17 June, exploring climate and migrant justice through art and culture as part of this year’s Refugee Festival.
- Visit Scarlett Erskine’s Jewellery Workshop on Sun 28 June and learn how to saw, solder and texture metal to create your own beautiful silver ring.
Opportunities
- Young theatre-makers! Get your applications in quick for Scottish Youth Theatre’s Trajectories, a fully supported bursary programme for early-career theatre artists aged 18–28. Applications close at 9pm, Thu 4 June.
- Apply before 12noon, Mon 8 June for Manipulate Arts’ new Animation Research and Development Fund which supports the visual and technical development of new independent animation projects by professional artists aged 18+.
- Aspiring game-makers aged 13–16 can apply to join the free IntoGames: Game Design Saturday Club at Dundee and Angus College, and get first-hand experience of the many layers of game-making.
- Dundee’s student-run community radio station Jam Radio are looking for new shows! They’ll be broadcasting live every Sunday this summer – get in touch with their team if you’re interested in getting involved.
Exhibitions
- ‘They Had Four Years‘ returns to Generator Projects from Sun 31 May–Sun 12 July, platforming the incredible talents of five of Scotland’s recent Fine Art graduates in a varied and unmissable exhibition.
- Dundee-based ceramicist and illustrator Ekaterina Tommie presents her first solo exhibition, ‘The Joy of Living‘, at Dundee Botanics’ The Green Gallery from Sat 6–Sun 28 June.
- Art Angel are back at DJCAD’s Matthew Building Foyer exhibit space to showcase the brilliant work of their young participants in a new ‘Young Adults Exhibition‘, running from on Sat 13 June–Sun 12 July.
- V&A Dundee showcase the radical contributions of Disabled, Deaf and neurodivergent people to contemporary design and culture in new free exhibition Design and Disability, now open in Gallery Two.
Content
- We’ve been loving the Secrets of Verdant Works short-video series over on their Instagram! Check them out for a little look at the hidden stories of this iconic Dundee site.
- Soundbase are raising money for an exciting new project teaching young people in Dundee how to produce podcasts, record and edit their music, and promote their work online! Help them hit their target with Creative Scotland match funding through their Podcast Workshops Crowdfunder.
- Some spring and summertime listening for you, with a few new, nature-themed songs from Dundee singer-songwriter Andrew Baird now available on his Bandcamp. You can also catch Andrew performing live at a Gig in the Garden for The Maxwell Centre’s Garden Party on Sat 27 June.
- The Scottish Working Class Network and Dundee’s own Dundee Artists Database have combined forces to form a new Scottish Working Class Database! The Database is free to use and free to search, and is intended to be a nationwide database for working class creatives in Scotland – you can add your details here.
