- The Flour Mill are opening their doors for a day of free coworking on Mon 10 August! If you’re curious to try coworking, book a day pass to join in, get to know the space, and meet some of their community.
- It’s time for the next BLETHER with Elfie Picket – a monthly event dedicated to Scots language performance! Join them on Fri 14 August for an evening crammed with music, poetry, songs, spoken word, and more.
- Join DCA on Thu 27 August for Creativity, Culture & Business, a relaxed business networking event for creative practitioners, businesses, and organisations with a chance to hear talks, make connections and get creative together.
- Wasps have some studio spaces available at Meadow Mill, including small and large studios as well as partitioned spaces. Take a look at what’s available on their website and get in touch – pricing starts at £180 p/m.
Events
- V&A Dundee are joined by Dame Laura Lee, and designers Lily Jencks and Roz Barr for in-conversation event Maggie’s: Designing Care on Fri 14 August, exploring the impact of Maggie’s commitment to using design to better cancer care.
- Grab a picnic and head to Ninewells Community Garden on Sat 22 August for the next CityFlowers Folk Fest! Expect a day celebrating all things folk with live music, poetry and storytelling, art activities and a ceilidh! They’re also looking for folks to help out on the day – get in touch with them if you’re interested in volunteering.
- Black and Global Majority creatives are invited to the first Creative Balance: Wellbeing Festival on Sun 13 September. Join them over in Glasgow to share a community meal, and a day of workshops, talks and performances inspired by their ongoing research.
- Dundee Changemakers Hub are launching a new free programme of community screenings, Films for Change! To kick things off, they’ll be screening the award-winning documentary ‘Everybody to Kenmure Street’ on Mon 10 August.
Workshops
- Local Art Club are partnering with St Andrews Heritage Museum for a special Lino Printing Workshop inspired by linocuts from artist Jan Woloszczack. Join them on Sat 8 August for a full day workshop, exploring the museum collection and making your own prints!
- Learn the art of duplicate embroidery with a Knit Masterclass with Lydia Morrow at V&A Dundee Wed 12 August, and add slogans or phrases to knitwear inspired by the textile typography found throughout the ‘Design and Disability’ exhibition.
- Shaper/Caper are celebrating the opening of their brand-new studio with an Open Day on Sat 15 August packed with free taster classes and performances for folks of all ages!
- Neurodivergent artists can join Neuk Collective on Wed 19 August for their new online Create + Connect series and a Weaving workshop with textile artist Martyna Michalak.
Opportunities
- Hands Up for Trad and the Scots Language Awards will be returning to Dundee on Sat 19 September! Now’s your chance to nominate the best in Scots language across 11 award categories including writing, performance, community outreach, education and more. Nominate your favourites before Sun 9 August.
- SCAN are partnering with BIPOC peer-network Parallel on a series of micro-grants for Black and Global Majority artists and arts workers. Eight micro-grants of £600 are available and applications close 5pm, Mon 17 August.
- Calling all young musicians! The Sound of Young Scotland Award is open for applications until Wed 21 August, apply now for the chance to win a funding package worth up to £10k towards the creation of your debut album.
- As part of their Holding Space project, Coaching for Creatives are hosting a free online session for creative practitioners living with or recovering from cancer. Eight places are available to join them on Fri 28 August for the first facilitated group support session.
- Applications are open for the next round of LAS Writer Bursaries for Works in Progress with five £3,000 bursaries to support established Scottish writers working on their next in-progress project. Apply by Sun 30 August.
Exhibitions
- Visit Dundee Botanic Garden until Fri 14 August for ‘Between Wing & Bloom‘, a new exhibition from artist Samantha Sherriff celebrating curiosity, colour and the magic of the natural world.
- It’s time for the next DJCAD Masters Show! Join them from Sat 22 August to celebrate the dynamic and imaginative work of almost 90 students across fine art, animation, curatorial practice and more.
- Now showing at Nomas* Projects until Thu 3 September – ‘Drawing As Imprint: Shifting Perspectives‘ by figurative artist Amanda Waite explores the cycles of trauma and healing in the lived experiences of women with breast cancer.
- Opening on Mon 10 August, DJCAD’s Lamb Gallery celebrates ‘Dundee and the RSA‘ with a diverse collection of Dundee artists’ works from across 200 years of the Royal Scottish Academy.
Content
- A wee collection of content to treat your ears to! First up, the Scottish Art Show is a new YouTube series chatting with artists and creatives across Scotland. The first five episodes keep it local, including one with Amps supporter Laurie Lindow!
- Dundee history experts and Scots language champions Dr Erin Farley and Taylor Dyson are on the latest episode of The Carrying Stream podcast chatting all things Dundee literature and the exciting new voices in Scottish poetry.
- And DVVA have launched the brand new Dundee Voices podcast, chatting to the brilliant people behind Dundee’s third sector! The first two episodes are living including a chat with Dundee Rep’s Lizzie Palmer on their life changing Dramatherapy service.
