UNESCO City of Design Dundee want your memorabilia to help transform Union Street with bespoke Trinket Tiles!
The UNESCO City of Design Dundee team have launched an open call for people across Dundee to contribute a small object, keepsake or “trinket” that tells a story about a connection to Union Street.
For the final stage of the Union Street Transformation Project, they’re working with Solus Ceramics to embed people’s trinkets within specially created terrazzo tiles called ‘Spolia’ that will form part of the new Union Street landscape.
Each contribution, whether a small memento, token, charm, badge, key, piece of jewellery, or other object of personal significance, will become part of the street’s fabric for years to come. These bespoke tiles will be one of a kind, telling stories of the history of Union Street.
What they’re looking for:
- The call is open to anyone who feels a connection to Union Street.
- Contributors might be previous or current residents, people who work or run businesses on the street, former visitors, students, shoppers, or anyone with memories linked to the street.
- Objects must be made from; non-iron based metals, ceramics, glass, and/or stone. Plastic items cannot be accepted.
- Accepted trinkets will be permanently embedded in a tile. Any unusable trinkets will be returned to the donor where possible.
- Due to the nature of the tile-making process, objects will be polished and may not be fully recognisable when set in the tile.
How to submit your trinket:
- You will be asked to add a label and share your name, what the trinket is and why it is important to you. If you leave your contact details the UNESCO team will get in touch with updates on the project.
