Creative Dundee

Dundee Fringe

The very first Dundee Fringe is here!

Dundee Fringe is a brand new performing arts festival bringing together talent from across the city and beyond! With a jam-packed programme that includes award-nominated theatre, hilarious comedy, live music, cabaret and much more!

The festival was founded by theatre maker, producer and event director JD Henshaw, who has facilitated the transformation of Dock Street Studios into a pop up theatre to host this glittering offering for ten days straight! With a capacity of 30 seats at each event, there will be plenty room for socially distanced enjoyment!

“I’m excited to work with others in Dundee to create a more sustainable fringe festival experience for everyone involved. With the city’s commitment to culture and creativity, I think Dundee is the perfect place to do this.”

Some shows to look out for;

Do you like to be enchanted? Spellbound? Well then – you’ll love Magic In Progress! For one night only magician extraordinaire Michael Brandie will blow your mind with just a few props, mind-bending tricks and mind-reading skills!

Prepare yourself for dad dancing and lip-synching! Party icon Tomás Ford will get you moving with Crap Music Rave Party beaming in via satellite, all the way from Perth (Australia not the one up the road) where you can request any song you like, as long as its crap!

For some bubbletastic family fun, Poppy Bubbles from Bubbleton, is looking for trainee bubbleologists in More Bubble Trouble! Family concession tickets are available and there will be a relaxed screening on Friday 24 September.

Theatre lovers can look forward to award winning Jekyll & Hyde: A One-Woman Show, a darkly funny and hopeful work directed by Jade Anderson – Comet / The Pearl and a gentle exploration of the importance of connection and the impact of loneliness in Brew.

“It’s important for me to help create a network and opportunities for local creatives year-round. After the experiences of the last year and a half, being together and sharing work with audiences feels even more essential.”

Where Next? is an informal panel session moderated by JD Henshaw looking at where productions can go next, whether that be touring, or what the next steps are in making work in Dundee.

Frustrated with the lack of opportunity outside of the big cities – JD has put his heart and soul in to this thoughtfully curated celebration of performative arts. Dundee Fringe will open doors, inspire audiences and set a precedent for what is possible for performers north of the central belt.
