- UNESCO City of Design Dundee have just opened applications for Vol. 2 of CODE Souvenir – their catalogue of products that evoke a sense of the city’s character or tell a story, acting as a memento or reminder of Dundee. (Deadline: Tue 23 August)
- Shaper/Caper are hosting the recipients of their most recent LGBTQ+ creative bursaries for a sharing evening on Tue 9 August, where they’ll also be announcing an exciting new project—AND they’d love to hear your stories for their next Fail/Safe event in September, too!
- 2 Stoned Birds have new music for your ears, exploring what it’s like to be diagnosed as autistic at age 30 through the mediums of fast-paced trance, rap, and echo-echo-echo-echo-lalia!
Events
- Pop along to the Wasps Meadow Mill Open Studios on Sat 6 & Sun 7 August to glimpse inside artists’ and designers’ studios, see how things are made behind the scenes, and shop directly from makers.
- Playful Gardens is an inclusive play event for children, young people and their families at the University of Dundee Botanic Garden on Sat 20 August.
- The Yard will be popping up at Bonar Hall on Sat 3 & Sun 4 September with live music, a bar, and a makers market with a whole host of local creatives.
- Fun a Day Dundee are hosting a creative social evening at Blend Dundee on Fri 12 August for participants past, present, and future!
Workshops
- Soundplay Projects are back at DCA for an afternoon drop-in event experimenting with digital tools for creative music-making on Sat 13 August.
- See a selection of moving image artworks by Scottish artists and meet artists from Valencia, Spain at Art Salón, on Sat 27 August between 3-5pm at Meadow Mill. Keep an eye on 201 Telephone Box Gallery for details.
- Join Knights Theatre for a series of Creative Writing workshops exploring the old streets of Dundee, the stories of people who lived there, and how they can be retold in new ways.
- There are lots of creative workshops coming up at Blend, including watercolour, word art, zine making, needle felting and jewellery making.
Opportunities
- GENERATORprojects are calling for workshop proposals about developing practical life skills that art school fails to teach students, with a fun or silly twist, for their Summer School programme. (Deadline: Sun 14 August)
- Coin Operated Press are looking for zine makers to table at their first HalloZine Fair in October! (Deadline: Sun 6 August)
- Playable City are seeking exciting proposals to receive up to £45k for prototypes that will reanimate our cities post-lockdown, by inviting people to play and connect. (Deadline: Fri 12 August)
- Dig It! is looking to commission three creatives to produce work which reflects on archaeological fieldwork and the theme of Climate Action Archaeology. (Deadline: Wed 17 August)
Exhibitions
- How many Amps can you squeeze into the Wasps exhibition programme? Find work by Paola McLure and Jill Skulina in the group exhibition Pentalogia Feminina at Patriothall in Edinburgh from Sat 6 August, and Theresa Lynn opens Moving Through at Meadow Mill on Sun 21 August.
- Ukranian visual artist and illustrator Alina Potemska reflects on the healing power of art, and how drawing is helping her to keep going in We Will Enjoy Flowers Again at Nomas* Projects.
- An Ode to Summer at Tatha Gallery is a visual ode to the luscious splendour of the summer garden in all its fertile beauty, featuring work from seven invited artists and makers.
- Artist, curator and writer Swapnaa Tamhane has created a new installation titled The Golden Fibre for V&A Dundee’s Scottish Design Galleries, exploring jute’s hidden histories.
