Creative Dundee Amps
Amp up the community – together we can make Dundee even better!
Creative communities are vital to Dundee’s growing reputation as a global cultural hub. We’ve created the Amps project to help us all create a better way to build Dundee’s local creative scene, our communities and the future of the city.
As a small but determined social enterprise we amplify talent on our online platform, connect people at events, and encourage collaboration and community building through forging new partnerships.
However, we can’t do this alone, with your voice and support we can make the city stronger for everyone. By helping make the world as passionate about Dundee’s creative scene as we are, you’ll receive a number of benefits, including special events like an annual Amps Forum, and new opportunities!
Your support will enable us to grow an innovative new Community Ideas Fund, a cash award each October to kick-start a new collaboration between two or more Amps to benefit Dundee. You will decide which project to award the funding to. Funding and voting is open to all Amps wherever you are.
This is not another membership programme, this is about using our collective forces to grow, nurture and celebrate creativity in Dundee for everyone.

Becoming a Creative Dundee Amp:
Along with supporting the city’s creativity, the benefits include:
- A new Community Ideas Fund awarded once a year to enable a new collaboration between Amps. 20% of your support will go towards this, so the more Amps there are, the bigger the Fund for Dundee will be! Find out more about the recipients of the 2017 Fund here. The 2018 Community Ideas Fund will open on 6th September 2018.
- An Annual Amps Forum to get together, celebrate and reflect on the past year, share what you do and your views on culture/creativity and Dundee’s scene. Join the night virtually also. The 2018 Forum is on 25th October 2018.
- Regular events – Amps Breakfast and Meet-Up – to meet other Amps, find new collaborators for the Community Ideas Fund, share updates on what you do and get behind the scenes insights into all the different things that Creative Dundee is developing in the city. The next Amps Breakfast is on 22nd March 2018.
- Pecha Kucha Night priority booking, or access to remote live streams on the night!
- Special alerts to take part in events, new projects and behind the scenes opportunities.
- Amps pin badge – a lovely designed enamelled pin, just for you.

Key 2018 Amps Dates:
Amps Breakfasts: 8am – 9.30am – 22 March, 28 June and 4 October 2018.
Amps Meet-Ups: Date to be confirmed in May (during Dundee Design Festival) and 6 September 2018.
Amps subscriber deadline to be eligible to apply to the 2018 Community Ideas Fund: 5 September 2018, midnight.

Who are Creative Dundee and why are they running Amps?
We are a small social enterprise which amplifies and connects creativity in the city, and originally started as a blog. You can read more about us here. We currently receive about 50% of our income from grant funding; and the rest is generated through trading – contracts, partnerships and event sales. We want to do even more for the city, but to do this we need your support, we believe Amps will give benefits for everyone – you, the creative sector and the city.
Where can I find out more about the Community Ideas Fund?
We’re really excited by this element of the project enabling Amps to collaborate, and will announce the details in 2017. We will make sure it’s a clear and easy open call application form. All Amps will have the opportunity to vote on who should get the cash award, which will be at the first Annual Forum in October 2017.
Do I have to live in Dundee to benefit from Amps?
Definitely not. We believe the benefits of being an Amp will be felt wherever you are based. We know that people around the world have a great affection and connection to the city, therefore our regular handwritten updates on postcards and remote link ups will help strengthen the ties no matter where you live.
Do I have to be ‘creative’ to benefit from Amps?
We know that everyone is creative and the strength of any network is its diversity, therefore we welcome anyone that wants to join forces with us to create a stronger and better city.
I can’t afford to become an Amp just now – can I still get involved?
We’ve tried to make the options as affordable as possible, however if the cost is a barrier to becoming an Amp, you may still be able to join us thanks to Pay it Forwarders and City Supporters. Please send an email letting us know why you’d find it valuable to be part of Amps and briefly tell us about the ways you’d be able to contribute to the network.
Is Creative Dundee changing – can I still share my news and come to events?
We’re not changing, we’re just adding to what we already do. Please do continue to send us your news and keep coming to our events, and we’ll keep sharing and connecting everything up. Amps is an extra way of enabling us to collectively do more to support the city’s creative scene.
