Dundee Playwrights Required

If the Oscars have put you in the mood to write an award winning screen play, then read on to find out how you can become your own Local Hero…

Dundee Playwrights Workshop and Dundee Dramatic Society have joined forces to search for playwrights to run a programme of public rehearsed readings of new, unperformed work at The Little Theatre in Dundee.  Actors and directors from the Little Theatre will rehearse the scripts, work with the writers and then perform the piece on stage.

Interested playwrights and screenwriters are invited to submit scripts to be considered for four workshop sessions to be held on Wednesday evenings during the spring and early summer of this year.

Bob Ballantine of Dundee Playwrights Workshop says of the programme: “The workshops will give the writers selected an opportunity to see their scripts ‘come to life’ on stage. Audience members will be encouraged to comment directly to the writer immediately after each performed reading. The whole process is designed to improve scripts and make them more ‘marketable’ for full theatre or screen production in the future.”

Scripts should be submitted electronically by Friday 9 March 2012 and see here for more details on how to submit work: Call for Playwrights.

The Little Theatre is also keen to welcome new members – they meet every Tuesday and Friday from 7.30pm, to find out more about the opportunities available, check out their Facebook page: Dundee Dramatic Society or visit their website: www.dundeeds.co.uk.
