What Presence! The Rock Photography of Harry Papadopoulos

What_Presence_email_invite11-1

Take your chance to glimpse behind the lens of legendary rock photographer Harry Papadopoulos, in a new touring exhibition coming to the McManus Galleries in May.

Papadopoulos is one of Scotland’s most renowned music photographers.  Mostly self-taught, Papadopoulos, who originally hails from Glasgow, has worked with every Scots band from the 1980’s capturing, amongst others, David Bowie, Blondie, Devo, Joy Division, Siouxsie & the Banshees and The Clash to name just a few. The McManus offers you the chance to step into Papadopoulos’ world with an exhibition of 300 images taken between 1979 and 1984.

Alongside the exhibition, the lovely folk at the McManus have asked all Dundonian’s near and far to delve into their own music archives to share their memorabilia and keepsakes from the Dundee music scene from the 80s online.  Together these contributions will make a unique anthology of 80s culture in our city and will help the museum expand their knowledge about the local music scene of Dundee. Be sure to keep an ear out for more information on exciting talks, impromptu music performances and creative learning opportunities which will run alongside this exhibition.

What Presence! The Rock Photography of Harry Papadopoulos takes place at the McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery and Museum from Friday 3rd May until Sunday 11th August 2013. Admission is free.
