Saturday Social at the Meffan – See the exhibition, enjoy some refreshments, create your own work of art, model for a two minute caricature, work together with a Society of Scottish Artists Professional Member to create a combined artwork…

This informal event will mark the end of a remarkable show and offers a great opportunity to meet up over a coffee or a glass of wine. Take part in a series of exciting, gallery based activities and participatory artworks, devised and delivered by SSA Professional Members Aidan Bremner, Chrissie Heughan, Diane Mclean, Gayle Nelson, Anne Russell and Catherine Sargeant.

See Aidan produce your caricature in record time, help Diane create a suspended paper sculpture; type Catherine messages which will inform her new artwork; make doily drawings with Gayle; collage, cut and fold paper boats with Chrissie and Anne; have a drink and a laugh. All ages welcome!

Saturday Social – Saturday 15 February 2014, 1pm-4pm

In a Jiffy: Professional and Honorary Members of the Society of Scottish Artists have been invited to create works on or of paper that specifically respond to the given theme embedded in the title ‘In a Jiffy’.

Works explore notions of time, distance, travel, perception and process as well as the practical considerations of transportation and delivery. Artists were also asked to consider the journey that their work would make to reach its destination and asked to send their work directly to the gallery in a ‘jiffy’ bag or any other postal envelop or packaging.

This is the first time SSA Professional Members will exhibit together at The Meffan and we look forward to continuing to build the relationship between the SSA and the wider exhibiting landscape in Scotland.
