Finalists have been notified and the Dundee Wearable Art organisers are now busy setting the line-up and entertainment for the first ever Dundee Wearable Art Show, which you are invited to this Saturday 11th October, 7pm at Dundee Rep’s Bonar Hall.
Artists, designers and makers from Dundee and beyond had been working hard for the past few weeks and the team can assure you that the show is going to be fantastic! So, join in the creative fun for a very special night out and experience a fusion of design, performance and music.
Firstly, Dundee Wearable Art Competition was grounded on one simple rule and you have surely guessed it, artworks must be wearable! Entrants were encouraged to use all kind of materials, techniques and skills sets to create their artworks. Secondly, the three sections of entries – Scottish Stories, Technology or Open – were defined to spark the imagination, which were without limits. Lastly, the promise of a finale, the show, where finalists will have the opportunity to present their artwork, which will be judged on their quality, originality and innovation, and of course win prizes.
The finalists chosen to appear in this year’s show will compete for a prize pool of 7 awards, which include overall winner, sections, best use of yarn, innovative use of recycled material, and spirit of Dundee awards. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful people who offered to sponsor an award. R B Communications, Frameworks Studios, DCA, Trinity Art Supplies, McGregor Balfour Textiles, Fluph, Lush Dundee and Aitken Wines are the local businesses which have supported the creative fun. The judging panel will include a representative from each business, and in addition also Mike Press, DJCAD Programme Director, Design and Craft, and Gillian Easson, Director, Creative Dundee.
Now it’s time to support the artists, designers and makers who took up the challenge and come along this Saturday to see their artworks – and enjoy a fun night out.
