Dundee Contemporary Arts has announced the events programme accompanying its forthcoming exhibition Copying Errors by Duncan Marquiss, which runs from Sat 14 May – Sun 3 July. The exhibition presents a selection of works from the last five years of Marquiss’ practice, from the material experimentation of his drawings and flicker films, to recent documentary videos that stem from his interest in biology.
The programme begins with a series of opening events on Fri 13 May, including a chance to hear Marquiss in conversation with DCA Exhibitions Curator Graham Domke at Meet the Artist, followed by an After Party with DJ set from Andy Wake of Hot Club.
On Thu 16 June Marquiss, who is a member of the Phantom Band, has programmed an evening of improvised music and performance to launch the first publication on his work, which will include documentation of Copying Errors. He has also selected two short documentaries by Werner Herzog, The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner and How Much Wood Would a Wood Chuck Chuck, which will screen as an Artist’s Choice double-bill on Sun 26 June.
For younger art fans, there’s another of DCA’s popular Family Art Labs on Sat 18 June, with the opportunity to explore the exhibition before making creative responses to the works on show. The Art Cart will also be out on level 4 of DCA on Sat 14 May, Sat 11 and Sat 25 June with plenty of free drop-in activities inspired by Marquiss’ work.
Graham Domke, Exhibitions Curator at DCA, said “I’ve followed Duncan’s work for over a decade and I greatly admire his evolving practice that finds expression in drawing and painting, film and video and performed and recorded music. His show at DCA brings together work from across his career and also enables him to produce work in our Print Studio. We’re delighted to be hosting the first comprehensive exhibition of his work in the city that he graduated in 15 years ago – hopefully providing inspiration for current and future students”.
