Tin Roof Arts Collective are holding two final events to commemorate their much loved current building before it closes its doors on the 19th of June – join them to celebrate everything they’ve done over the years for the city and hundreds of artists they’ve supported!

DJCAD graduate and Tin Roof intern Kirsty Dalton will show a solo exhibition of her work opening on Friday the 10th of June. The exhibition, titled ‘Primal’ runs until the Sunday afternoon and showcases Kirsty’s sculpture and pyrography work – a technique to burn intricate designs onto wood.

Kirsty has produced this exhibition in partnership with the Forestry Section of Dundee City Council, who donated the cedar wood from trees from the Harris Academy site in Dundee. In return Kirsty will donate the completed large scale sculptures to the Camperdown Sculpture trail to be enjoyed for years to come.

Tin Roof has run internships with graduates since 2011, in a bid to support artists at what can be a difficult time in their careers. The internship offered studio space, work experience and mentorship.

Artist Tanith Marron who also took part in the internship, has been organising Tin Roof’s closing weekend from the 17th-19th of June, a Zine Fair as part of Print Festival Scotland which promises to showcase a huge range of printed media from local talent such as Treehouse Comics, to artists’ work from Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen and the University of Art and Design in Barcelona. The event will also be accompanied by an exhibition by three artists Aylson Stewart, Kirsty McKeown and Adrian Murray. The final day of the event will be accompanied by a BBQ and live music in the evening from Dundee musicians.

Tin Roof founding member and director Joanna Helfer:
“We are really sad to be losing our building on Bellfield Street, but delighted to see it finishing on such a high. Our interns Tanith and Kirsty have been amazing over the past year and have worked so hard on putting these events together. We are glad Tin Roof has offered so many opportunities to artists over the years and we are excited to see what the future holds for us. Our final events offer the public a last chance to enjoy the building and the wonderful artwork on display and we warmly welcome all to attend.”
