Participants announced for Drop in and Play at DCA

Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) and Abertay University are pleased to announce the line-up of a special Drop in and Play event on Sat 3 September from 1pm – 4pm at DCA, programmed to coincide with the final weekend of its current exhibitions by Eddo Stern and Theresa Duncan. The games on show will be suitable for all ages to try out and discuss with their creators.

The line-up at Drop in and Play includes Get Chucked, a Virtual Reality game designed Cosmic Donut – a group of students at Abertay University –  where players don the headset and catapult themselves with the attempt of landing on a specific target. Steven Taarland’s To-Tum, a 3D puzzle game challenging the player to navigate through mazes will also be on show; and Fragmental, an adrenaline-fuelled action-packed four-player battle game designed by Ruffian Games, will also be on show.

SpyFall by Lewis Davie involves two players fighting as they fall through the sky; while Halcyon by James Adam Chester explores the cyclical nature of life, ideas, inspiration and creativity, emphasising the importance of constant learning.

Hyper Luminal Games will be showing Igknight, a multiplayer combat game.

All games will be suitable for ages 10+ and local games company Future Fossil will also be on hand for people to explore the art of games design in depth.

Beth Bate, Director of DCA said “We’re delighted to be offering local games developers the opportunity to share their work at DCA on the final weekend of our two exhibitions exploring games as art. Gaming is a vital element in the creative economy of our City of Design and we’re thrilled to be able to celebrate it whenever we can.”

Drop in and Play takes place from 1pm – 4pm on Sat 3 September, and is free to attend. The event will be followed by a screening of 80s classic WarGames, which has also been programmed to coincide with DCA’s current exhibitions. For more information visit www.dca.org.uk.
