The inaugural Dundee Design Festival took place from 25 to 28 May 2016 in West Ward Works, the former print works of DC Thomson. The UNESCO City of Design Dundee team hosted an exhibition of some of the most innovative designs in the country. With a theme of health and well-being; including digital, games, textiles, healthcare, social design and architecture, the ground-breaking work examined how design affects all aspects of our lives – design is everything, and everything connects.
During the four days there were talks, and workshops where you could even make your own prosthetic hand! You can read more about the full 2016 programme here. Creative Dundee teamed up with Creative Edinburgh to run Mass Assembly, a one day forum exploring the future of collective working, which saw people from all over Scotland and the UK join us in Dundee to discuss and share their views. In the evening, we ran a design themed Pecha Kucha Night, which saw over 400 people come along to West Ward Works to hear from a usually eclectic range of speakers!
