Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of Dundee’s Rep Theatre? Or felt like exploring the DCA’s Print Studio?
Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) and Creative Dundee have teamed up to offer that and much more in a cultural tour of the city! Running as a pilot event on Sat 20 May at 11:00 and 14:00, Behind the Scenes Dundee is a two-hour tour led by the Creative Dundee team which gives you the opportunity to take in four of the local cultural organisations. Filled with behind the scenes talks, tours and stories, this event provides the kind of insider knowledge you can only get from experiencing these spaces first-hand!
Dundee Contemporary Arts is the meeting point at the very beginning, with a guided tour of the Print Studio and a chance to explore the huge range of printmaking equipment on offer, from the ancient to the very modern. From DCA, it’s a short walk to the McManus Galleries, where you can see their team hard at work with celebrations of the nationwide Festival of Museums.
As the tour ventures into spaces that are not regularly open to the public, the third stop will be Fleet Collective; a creative co-working space and agency that brings together freelancers, researchers and businesses in a beautiful open working space. Lyall Bruce will introduce attendees to some of the exciting creative work that’s happening under Fleet’s roof.
From Fleet, the group will walk to Dundee Rep Theatre, home to Dundee Rep Ensemble, Scottish Dance Theatre and Rep Creative Learning, where you will be able to see their process from a new angle, discovering the ins and outs backstage. We finish up back at DCA, with a chance to visit the current exhibition MARK WALLINGER MARK or enjoy some refreshments in the Jute Café Bar.
Beth Bate, Director of DCA, said “We’re delighted to be working with Creative Dundee to bring audiences a valuable insight into some of the hugely exciting creative activity taking place across the city. As the cultural reputation of Dundee continues to grow, we’re looking forward to helping audiences make connections between venues, and to see a little of what goes on behind the scenes.”
Reserve your place on one of the 20 May tours and get to know a whole new side of Dundee’s cultural life!
