The Dundee Musicians Award 2018-19, staged by Leisure & Culture Dundee, is now open for applications. The Award was established in 2008 to support the work of outstanding Dundee-based musicians by awarding grants towards the costs involved in creating new work in any genre, research and professional development with grants of up to £500 available.
The awards support projects that look at creative development through collaborations, working with new partners, or new producers.
This year with the support of Dundee Place Partnership we are also, offering the opportunity for Dundee based musicians to apply to a mentoring scheme. The programme will support one successful applicant to develop and progress their creative practice over 12 months. Tailored to the individual musician, the programme will include mentoring which may lead to the development of skills and training or creation of work. A bursary of £500 will be awarded.
Over the past 10 years winners have included The Hazey Janes, Charlotte Brimner, Panda Su, The Mirror Trap, Fat Goth, Scary People, AMWWF, Michael Marra, Loadsaweeminsingin’, Cantiones Sacrae and many more.
2017 winner Panda Su, now known as SHHE, used the award to collaborate on a new music video. She said: “Eyes Shut was recorded and produced in Dundee so it was important to me that the video was made here too. Collaborating with a Dundee-based director and performers from Scottish Dance Theatre proves that you don’t need to leave the city to create something special. As an independent artist, the support I received from Dundee Musicians Award was crucial in making these collaborations happen.”
The application form can be downloaded here, closing date for applications is Friday 3 August 2018. For further information contact: dma@leisureandculturedundee.com or phone (01382) 434111
