WHEN I TRIED TO SPEAK is a night of music and spoken word for female and non-binary performers. The event will take place on Clarks, 80 N Lindsay St, from 7-10.30pm on Sunday 4 November 2018.

It will feature singer-songwriters Hailey Beavis and Amy Duncan with spoken word from Ana Hine and Suky Goodfellow followed by an open mic.

Organisers Amy Duncan and Ana Hine are part of the women’s music and alternative poetry scenes respectively. Their aim is to provide an opportunity for those who might not be able to travel to other cities to see some of the best independent performers from these scenes and to create a space where local female and non-binary poets and musicians can share their work.

Ana Hine said: “As a Dundonian I’m always looking for ways to be myself in this city, to carve a space where I can see female and non-binary performers of a high calibre – like you can in other cities – and be part of the current feminist art scene in some way. Sometimes you can’t find what you’re looking for so you have to create it / organise it yourself.”

Tickets at £5 are available from the bar, Grouchos, Assai Records in Broughty Ferry and or Eventbrite. A £3 concession will be available on the door for students and the unwaged on presentation of proof of status. Clarks is a 16+ Venue Under 18s must be accompanied.

ARTIFICIAL WOMB is a feminist arts business centred around a monthly zine, which aims to showcase the contributions of women in music and the wider arts. There will be an Artificial Womb stall selling feminist merchandise like badges, bracelets, and patches.
