11th June, 1:30pm at Dundee Contemporary Arts
Mind-Set will have its Scottish premiere at DCA Cinema on Sat 11 June, followed by a live Q&A. Directed by Dundonian filmmaker Mikey Murray, the film has already taken home the award for Best UK Feature Film at Manchester Film Festival in March 2022.
The comedy/drama centres on Lucy (Eilis Cahill), a disillusioned office worker who has a dysfunctional relationship with her slovenly partner Paul (Steve Oram), and is surprised to find herself on the cusp of a none-too-secret affair with her new work colleague, Daniel (Peter Bankolé). The thrill of the chase for a shred of affection takes her mind off her problematic life but she’s not sure that she’ll ever leave Paul, or that sex with someone else is the true answer to her problems. Mind-Set strikes a delicate balance; the film’s quirky sense of humour doesn’t distract from its clear-eyed focus on a failing relationship.
Director Mikey Murray said: “At its heart our film shows ordinary lives and relationships on screen, and the film deals with issues around mental health and depression. I’m delighted to be able to show my film in Dundee at Dundee Contemporary Arts. DCA is a special place for me, I’ve watched so many films there and it’s a bit of a dream for me to have my film in their programme.”
