Creative Dundee and the University of Dundee have come together to better understand the landscape and current needs for creative practitioners and businesses locally.
The Creative Industries and Cultural Sector play a key role in creating economic benefits and social value in the UK. Prior to the pandemic, they were the fastest growing sector in the UK economy, with the cultural sector worth £13.5bn and the creative industries over £100bn (around 5.5%). Dundee has been recognised as a ‘creative micro-cluster’ with a flourishing video games industry and expertise in comic book design, fashion, textiles and jewellery, amongst other creative sectors.
We believe that this is an important moment to map the current creative and cultural practitioners and businesses within the City of Dundee and city region in order to understand the current context and distribution of the creative and cultural industries and practitioners. This information will strengthen our understanding of sector needs and opportunities for development – including space, resources, education and training needs as well as development opportunities for the city and wider region.
We also know that many creative practitioners work within organisations or businesses that have other primary functions and we would like to know more about this too.
We hope that you will participate in this survey and we look forward to receiving your responses.
Our intention is to use the data we receive to help us plan future projects and co-author a summary report and/or a blog for Creative Dundee and the University to help illustrate the outcomes to the creative and cultural organisations in the region.
