Dundee Women’s Festival is back with a two-week-long programme of events on this year’s theme; Wimen Mak it Happen!
With events featuring everything from zine making to cooking around the globe, line dancing to empowering talks, this year’s Dundee Women’s Festival encourages everyone to Blaw Their Ain Trumpet and celebrate the women of Dundee past and present.
Running from Saturday 2 until Sunday 17 March, the Festival is back with a wide range of events and workshops hoping to renew networks and friendships, spread knowledge, and build on the celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women recognised annually on International Women’s Day on 8 March.
Here is a small taste of what’s on offer throughout the festival:
- On Sat 2 March, join Women on the March a special workshop led by textile artists Sheila Mortlock and Dorothy Walker taking inspiration from the University of Dundee Museums’ textile collection.
- Join social enterprise How It Felt on Tue 5 or Wed 6 March for I Can Make Myself Flowers and create a bouquet of upcycled paper flowers celebrating new beginnings and personal growth.
- Head to DCA for a double screening of Palestinian short film The Silent Protest and documentary Bye Bye Tiberias followed by a panel discussion on Wed 6 March.
- Drop-in and play ‘Library Labyrinth’ a new co-operative board game gathering together a team of inspiration women from fiction to battle monsters in a cursed library. Give it a go at the Keiller Centre on Sun 10 March.
- Hear from art historian and curator Dr Laura Leuzzi at Street Art Herstories on Tue 12 March, where she’ll share and discuss the spectacular street art created by women in Dundee and beyond.
- Visit DJCAD’s Zine Library on Wed 13 March to browse the collection, donate your own zines, and join a workshop to create your own mini-zine.
