Calling all comic and graphic novel creators! Submit your work for the first Selkie Awards, celebrating Scotland’s independent comics scene.

Inspired by the Scottish Independent Comic Book Alliance (SICBA) Awards, which ran from 2011-2019, the newly formed Selkie Awards aims to celebrate the wealth of talent in the Scottish comic book scene. Welcoming submissions of both short comics and graphic novels, ongoing series and standalone stories, the Selkie Awards will be open for submissions until Friday 23 August.

With rising costs for producing, selling and promoting comics, the Selkie Awards feel it’s more important than ever that comic creators receive recognition for their achievements without the costs of an entry fee attached. The awards are open to submissions of any comics and graphic novels created between July 2023 and July 2024, either created while in Scotland or by a resident of Scotland.

• Best Short Comic (comics of 52 pages or less)
• Best Graphic Novel (comics of more than 52 pages)
• Best Art
• Best Narrative
• Up and Coming Talent

How to apply:

• Submitted works must have been published between July 2023 and July 2024, and created in Scotland, and/or created by a resident of Scotland.
• All genres, art styles and narratives are eligible for submission, and both standalone works and works from ongoing series are welcome.
• Applicants may submit one work per category for consideration.
• Submissions of a violent, sexually explicit or offensive nature will only be considered after approval from the submission panel.
• Self-published works are eligible for submission, including digital-only works.
• Submissions must be made via the online application form and only digital PDF files will be considered.
