Dundee’s Changemakers Hub is seeking two Community Journalists for a five month term.

Do you have storytelling skills? Want to learn and support your community? Dundee’s Changemakers Hub are currently recruiting for two Community Journalists for a five month term to identify, record and elevate the stories of two separate communities as part of their pilot projects.

Both Community Journalists will be expected to produce 8–12 content pieces across October 2024 – March 2025 for a total fee of £2000. Applications for both positions close Wednesday 2 October.

Community Journalist – Manyways

The Manyways project is identifying and developing inclusive green spaces, supporting local groups to create and maintain their own spaces for their own communities. The Manyways stories identified by the Community Journalist, will explore what makes something inclusive and accessible, considering what connectivity looks like across society, and what the barriers are to connecting with marginalised groups.

• Applicants must have lived experience of disabilities or additional support needs, either as a member of the disabled community themselves, or as a carer or family member.
• Applicants should be able to show skills in storytelling, interviewing, video and audio recording, and editing and writing, but they are not required to be a trained journalist, digital expert, or content producer.
• An eye for identifying a story or an individual with a story to tell, and a passion for community, social impact and climate change are key.

Community Journalist – Whitfield

The Whitfield stories will shine a light on local community changemakers whose experiences and activities would otherwise go unnoticed. The content should amplify the brilliant work being undertaken by people who know and love Whitfield, aiming to connect across community groups and champion local voices.

• Applicants must be a current resident of Whitfield or have previously lived in Whitfield.
• Applicants should be able to show skills in storytelling, interviewing, video and audio recording, and editing and writing, but they are not required to be a trained journalist, digital expert, or content producer.
• An eye for identifying a story or an individual with a story to tell, and a passion for community, social impact and climate change are key.

Dundee’s Changemakers Hub is being designed and delivered by a collective of five local community organisations: Transition Dundee, The Maxwell Centre, ScrapAntics, Uppertunity, and Creative Dundee. The Hub offers support, events, workshops and micro-grants to connect and amplify collective community action.

The Hub is part of a growing national network of Climate Action Hubs funded by the Scottish Government’s Climate Action Fund, which aim to build local awareness of the climate emergency, develop local plans, help groups take up funding opportunities, and contribute to a Just Transition.
