- Keep your wee ones entertained on Fri 7 March with a special World Book Day interactive reading of ‘The Great Highland Games Chase’ and drawing tutorial with illustrator Laura Darling.
- Head to the Scrap Antics Community Space on Sat 8 March for a special International Women’s Day Event with music from Monooka and storytelling from Erin Farley.
- Visit Blend at Dock Street Studios on Wed 12 March for the next Hotchpotch open mic night and take to the stage with your own work or join the audience!
- The Art and Nature Collective are celebrating their first year with exhibition ‘The Nature of Art‘ including Amps Anna Rooney, Suzane Scott, Louise Kirby, Laura Penman, Cara Rooney, Samantha Sherriff, and Skye Sutherland! Running until Sun 30 March.
Events
- Join DCA for In Conversation: Lisa Williams and Susannah Thompson on Thu 13 March, exploring current exhibition ‘Soft Impressions’, the artists’ work and the histories they engage with.
- Dundee Changemakers Hub invite you to join Changemakers: Dundee in Action on Thu 27 March for an evening of storytelling, conversation, and connection, celebrating the work of those driving climate action and social justice in Dundee.
- Shop with lots of local sellers and makers at The Yard Market each month! In March, you can find 100% Vegan products at the market on Sat 22 March and an array of fantastic makers on Sat 29 March.
- Head to the Maxwell Centre Garden on Sat 29 March for the grand unveiling of the Toadstool Trail and celebrate with an afternoon of dancing and fun at a community ceilidh!
Workshops
- The Ninewells Community Garden are creating their very own tapestry! Drop-in each Monday afternoon from Mon 3 March to help stitch the designs and learn the art of embroidery – no previous experience required.
- Scarlett Erskine Jewellery are running their first Beginners Jewellery Course from Mon 10 March! Join jeweller Kate Pickering in the workshop for an eight week course where you’ll learn a range of techniques to start your own projects.
- Icebreaker are bringing back their Public Speaking workshop to Cake or Dice on Thu 20 March, helping to clear common misconceptions about stage presence and build your confidence to better connect with an audience.
- Join fellow craft enthusiasts and get to grips with the basics of crochet in a fun and relaxing three week course at Cake or Dice, starting on Thu 27 March.
Opportunities
- The Scottish BPoC Writers Network are currently open to blog pitches from Black writers and writers of colour on the theme ‘Sustain’ for guest spots on their site between April and June. Apply to the open call before Fri 14 March.
- Dundee Ceramics Workshop are searching for new tutors to join their team! They’re looking for ceramicists with at least two years wheel throwing and hand building experience to assist with their courses and private sessions. Applications close 11.59pm, Sun 16 March.
- If you’ve got a passion for dance, creativity and community, and love telling digital stories, Shaper/Caper want to hear from you for the role of Digital Content Producer. Applications close 5pm, Fri 21 March
- Wasps have a number of studio spaces available at Meadow Mill ranging from small shared spaces to larger self-contained studios. Contact their team for further details and viewings.
Exhibitions
- Visit DJCAD’s Matthew Foyer Galleries from Fri 21 March for ‘Pieces I Never Did‘, a new exhibition from MFA Curatorial Practice students exploring unrealised ideas, works that never left the sketchbook and concepts that remain unfinished.
- The Dundee Tapestry is back at V&A Dundee until Sun 6 April! Explore the city’s heritage, creativity, and people through this unique handcrafted image of Dundee, constructed by over 140 local volunteer stitchers.
- Now open at Cooper Gallery, ‘Between the Door and the Street‘ is the first solo exhibition in Scotland by pioneering American artist Suzanne Lacy, capturing her socially engaged and public performance art. Running until Sat 12 April.
- Open at Verdant Works until Mon 5 May, ‘The Art of Survival‘ is a poignant exhibition and celebration of the work of Dundee Women’s Aid, paying tribute to the role of creativity in recovery.
Content
- In the run-up to Record Store Day on Sat 12 April, RSD have been jumping ‘Behind the Counter’ and getting to know the folks running local record stores across the UK, including Dundee’s very own Thirteen Records!
- The Dundee Changemakers Hub Community Journalists have been hard at work sharing stories of the Manyways, Whitfield, and Coldside pilot projects as they take shape.
- Get up close and personal with the dancers of Scottish Dance Theatre in a new series of Dancer Profiles, exploring their journeys to the stage and what dance means for them.
- Illustrator Cara Rooney designed flash cards depicting the 12 principles of permaculture to accompany the latest Fabric session held by Creative Dundee and Dundee Changemakers Hub – some inspiration for thinking about how natural ecosystems can influence how we design other systems.
