- Shaper/Caper have another exciting opportunity to join their team as Artistic Producer. They’re looking for an experienced, organised, and passionate performing arts producer who can help them build strong relationships across the sector. Applications close, 5pm, Wed 8 April.
- UNESCO City of Design Dundee have welcomed New Zealand-based designer Matthew McIntyre Wilson to Dundee through the Textile Legacies residency! Join them to learn more about Matthew and his work at a relaxed in-conversation event on Thu 9 April.
- Volk Gallery has a new home! Take your £3 along to Central Library to vend their latest exhibition ‘Chengey as Cheer‘ from artist Maeve Callister-Wafer until Sat 11 April.
- Take a trip to Edinburgh on Thu 30 April for Daurk days or fine: Celebratin workin class wummin’s vyces with Scots Scriever Taylor Dyson, historian and storyteller Erin Farley, and Scots singer Lynne Campbell!
Events
- Join Cooper Gallery on Sat 11 April for the final event in their Weird Economies x Scotland series! ‘Reuter in Tehran‘ brings together artist Bahar Noorizadeh and sound artist Intibint for a live sound performance developed from Noorizadeh’s installation.
- Support the city’s indie record shops for Record Store Day on Sat 18 April and head down to Le Freak Records, Thirteen Records, and Assai Dundee to celebrate with giveaways, live DJ sets, and limited edition releases!
- Experience bold new work in development across theatre, music, dance and spoken word as Dundee Rep Stripped returns from Wed 22–Sat 25 April.
- Spring is here and it’s time to celebrate with the Maxwell Centre Garden Party on Sat 25 April! Join them for food, fun, music, plant swapping and mini workshops for all ages to enjoy.
Workshops
- Join artist Katie McGroarty for a Life Drawing Double Bill on Sat 4 April with two models modelling for a two hour workshop. Tickets include refreshments and access to some materials and easels.
- Get crafty and meet some new folks with ScrapAntics Re/Shape workshops! This month you can make your own Handpainted Wooden Jewellery on Tue 7 April and learn to Sew a Dice Bag on Tue 21 April.
- The Acting Lab are ready to take your acting to the next stage with their Adult Acting Intermediate Course from Sat 11 April – a great way to level up your skills and build professional techniques.
- Young creatives aged 10–14 can join Transition Dundee across the Easter break for zine making, screen-printing, embroidery and more at Climate Camp from Tue 14 – Fri 17 April!
Opportunities
- This June, Dundee will transform into a playground for all ages with the launch of a new four-day Play Festival! If you view play as a key part of your work, have an idea for a playful event or activity, and would like to be involved in the festival, Dundee Play Forum want to hear from you.
- Bioregioning Tayside have launched an open call for an artist or illustrator who can help shape a distinctive visual language for the organisation. Submissions close at 5pm, Fri 11 April, with the chosen submission winning a £1,000 prize alongside a full paid commission contract to develop the work.
- Narture CIC are inviting artists to join them in Ayr for Blank Canvas – a month-long, place-based residency exploring the intersections of food, art, sustainability and regeneration. There are two places open for Scotland-based artists in August and September with applications closing at 5pm, Sun 12 April.
- Applications are now open for the Creative Cities Living Heritage Residencies Programme which will platform artistic exchange and collaboration between UNESCO Heritage sites and Creative Cities, including the opportunity for a Dundee designer to explore textile heritage at New Lanark. Applications close at 1pm, Mon 13 April.
Exhibitions
- Opening at V&A Dundee on Fri 3 April, Catwalk: The Art of the Fashion Show celebrates over 100 years of catwalk history from private salons to today’s immersive runway experiences.
- Visit ‘Tangled Threads‘ by Dundee-based artist Jo Hanning for an intimate glimpse into her process and sketchbook, with the exhibition showing until mid-April at Castle Street Window – a temporary, street-facing exhibition space developed by Original Copy Collective.
- Visit POD! Gallery at the Wellgate Centre for the beautiful and moving exhibition ‘Maysa Yousef, Dorgham Qreaiqua and Heba Zaqout‘ featuring the work of three artist from Gaza alongside artwork from children in Gaza who took part in Hope and Play workshops.
- Generator Projects welcome site-responsive artist Leah McDonald for her first solo exhibition C’MERE, exploring themes of class, identity, and disruption of place. Exhibition running until Sun 3 May.
Content
- The perfect book for the weaver in your life is out now from Cally Booker! Designing and Weaving Double Cloth explains the processes of creating double weave design, showing how to bring multi-layered fabrics to life on the loom.
- An exquisite treat for the ears as Dundee artist and musician SHHE returns with new music. Listen to the first single Katávasi before the full album is released on Fri 15 May.
- 2026 marks the 125th anniversary of the RRS Discovery and to help celebrate local designer Alastair Walker was tasked with creating a new commemorative logo – read more about his process and the archive material that inspired his work!
