If you have visited Perth or Aberdeen recently you may have noticed the incredible murals, painted vennels and doors. These street projects are not just beautiful and accessible art works, but are also able to bring some visual value to corners of the city that may often be ignored. Over the next couple of weeks OpenClose Dundee, with support from Place Partnership, will be doing just that – making art in the doors and alleyways around the city.

The trial project will work on doors at several locations, like; Couttie’s Wynd, New Mill Entry, Pullar’s Close, Peter Street, Sugarhouse Wynd, Meadow Entry and an alley off Commercial Street, all being painted by local artists. Trail organiser, Russell Pepper, says about the response to the project: “Everyone has been incredibly positive about it – literally every shopkeeper I’ve spoken to has loved the idea and wanted to have their door painted!  It’s incredibly encouraging and Dundee is clearly crying out for street art, it’s just a shame we can’t paint them all“.

At this time of the year the trail provides a good opportunity for strolling around the city, looking for the different pieces and sharing them online. It connects exposure of local artists’ work, explorations of Dundee and a new perspective of hidden urban spaces.

Besides finding the trail of all the different spots, you can also follow OpenClose’s Facebook page where they will alert followers to dates and times of paintings so you can come along and watch the work in progress.
