Literary cabarets, book swaps, workshops and author visits – Dundee’s got it all going on for Book Week Scotland!
Peggy Hughes of Literary Dundee gives us the low-down on Book Week Scotland, which is about celebrating books and reading in every part of life in Scotland.
Between 25 November and 1 December 2013, people of all ages and of all walks of life will be able to come together in libraries, schools, community venues and workplaces to share and enjoy books and reading. They will be joined in this celebration by Scotland’s authors, poets, playwrights, storytellers and illustrators to bring a packed programme of free projects and events to life.
There are many events happening in Dundee, and you’re invited!
Literary Dundee’s monthly salon will tie in with Book Week Scotland, and take place at Dundee Central Library on Thursday 28th November, from 6pm. Join us for readings from the Creative Writing MLitt students!
We’re excited and delighted to welcome Edinburgh-based cabaret duo Rally & Broad to Dundee on Friday 29th November, from 7.30pm in Caffe Borsa! Poets Mark Thomson (Dundee) and Milton Balgoni (Fife) and sweet music from singer songwriter Lake Montgomery (Edinburgh via Paris, Texas). Free, pop along!
And as if that wasn’t enough – we’ll also be perambulating Dundee throughout Book Week Scotland with a Trundelling Travelling Book Trolley, stuffed with Book Week Scotland’s special free Treasures books and the chance to have a blind date with a book… Keep an eye out for us, or follow us on Twitter @literarydundee to find out where we’ll be!
Our partners and friends in the city have plenty of shenanigans planned too. There’s bookbinding, comics, crime and much more at Dundee Libraries, as their Festival of Libraries ties in with Book Week Scotland activities.
Meanwhile at Dundee Contemporary Arts, book lovers can get stuck into vocalised books, a book swap and other activities.
Happy reading!
