PechaKucha Night Dundee Vol.12

Pecha Kucha Night Dundee Vol 12 took place on Tuesday 26th May 2015 and had more super fast talks given by folks doing interesting stuff. Part of the global PKN family, the night also gave everyone the chance to shout out what they had coming up!

For the fourth year, PKN was part of Ignite Dundee, a celebration of all things creative and cultural happening across the city, during the month of May – including shows, exhibitions, workshops and more.

A huge thanks to graphic designer, Martin Baillie for the excellent PKN illustration – go #PKN_DND !

Chris Scott

Chris Scott is a photographer based in Dundee, his passion is capturing the beauty of life through his lens. Whether it’s a curious look passing over someone’s face, the hustle and bustle of a busy street, or one of life’s big moments, Chris loves how photography freezes a split second in time and records it forever. @scotastic

As an Australian who fell in love with this city 20 years ago, Kelly has found that the more she has learned about Dundee’s history the more curious she has become. Kelly has visited primary schools all over the city and the reactions from the children when she talks about Dundee’s Discoveries have been some of the most satisfying experiences of her life.

Kat Kjellström Corbet PKN

Kat Kjellström Corbet is a visiting researcher at the University of Life, truthsayer and clutter clearer. Kat conducts her life as one big experiment. She constantly monitors her own emotions, thoughts and behaviour in the hope of detecting any potential causality between these variables and her actual lived experiences. Having identified an area of her life which clearly needs tweaking, she’ll consciously challenge herself to transform her least appealing habits (such as ignoring her overflowing e-mail inbox) into more life-affirming behavioural choices (e.g. deleting the entire contents of her inbox unread and then treating herself to a takeaway flat white and some cake). She delights in sharing her successes and failures with anyone who’s willing to listen.

What is Pecha Kucha Night?

If you’ve not been to Pecha Kucha Night Dundee before, then all we can say is come along and try it out. PKN is part of a massive global network, which you can find out more about here. You get to hear from around 12 diverse individuals who speak about whatever they like, and it’s a speedy format – presenters have 20 images and 20 secs per image – so just under 7 mins, which means you hear a lot of interesting, though-provoking, often inspiring stuff.

Pecha Kucha Nights* were originally started back in 2003 in Tokyo, as an event for creatives to meet, network, and talk about their work in public. Since then Pecha Kucha, meaning ‘chit chat’ in Japanese, has spread internationally running in over 800 cities across the world. The much loved and respected format is relaxed, simple and enjoyable, with something for everyone – presenters have 6 minutes 40 seconds to show and talk through their 20 images, each for just 20 seconds – this keeps things fast and fun!

* Pecha Kucha was devised and shared by Klein Dytham Architecture. The PKN Dundee event is organised and hosted by Creative Dundee.
