Creative Dundee

Global UNESCO Design Cities Event

Dundee is the UK’s only UNESCO City of Design and has been a part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network since 2014. There are 31 UNESCO Design Cities across the world and each shares a commitment to using design to improve the lives of the people who make those cities their home.

In October, twenty-two of the UNESCO Cities of Design were in Dundee for their annual sub-network meeting and they will share with us, what makes their city special at this one-off event, Global UNESCO Design Cities Powered by PechaKucha, 6.30pm – 8.30pm on Tuesday 16 October 2018 at The Steeple.

In partnership with Dundee’s UNESCO City of Design team, Creative Dundee ran the popular PechaKucha style night with this extra special focus! Eight of the cities of design talked about aspects of design which make their cities better to live and work in.  Speakers included Kortrijk in Belgium, Shenzhen in China, Puebla in Mexico, and Torino in Italy!

If you are interested in creativity, design, cities, international working or simply enjoy the format, we think this night is for you. Find out a little bit more about what we can learn from our global partners and their representatives from Brasilia, Cape Town, Detroit, Dubai, Geelong, Graz, Helsinki, Istanbul, Kaunas, Kobe, Kolding, Kortrijk, Montreal, Nagoya, Puebla, Shenzhen, Singapore, Torino, Wuhan.

Tickets were free, and this event was live-streamed. There was also be an interactive showcase of video games from Abertay University’s Dare Academy on the night.

PechaKucha, or ‘chit chat’ in Japanese, was developed by Klein Dytham Architecture, in Tokyo back in 2003. PKs now run all over the world – our last count was over 900 cities and growing, you can view a map of all locations on their website. For the entire video archive of past Dundee PechaKucha events, you can click here.

This event will be live-streamed, photographed and eventually shared through Creative Dundee and UNESCO City of Design Dundee’s social media platforms. If you do not wish to appear in any of the images that are made public, please let us know at news@creativedundee.com.
