- Join the first online gathering of the Mental Health Arts Network for an Artist Wellbeing Workshop with Emma Hagen on Thu 23 January, exploring working with challenging, autobiographical material.
- Hear from Dundee’s independent game developers and learn more about working in the games industry at the Drop in and Play Careers Spotlight at DCA on Sat 25 January.
- Book your ticket for 12 Hour Acting Up at Cooper Gallery on Sat 1 February, a symposium marking the culmination of The Ignorant Art School’s Sit-in #4 with collective readings, sewing, performances, talks, screenings and more.
- Discover some homegrown talent with Dundee Rep’s Scottish Showcase! Grab tickets for these February shows and enjoy everything from a live D&D adventure with Icebreaker Dundee to a multi-award winning, one-woman adaptation of Jekyll & Hyde.
Workshops
- The Acting Lab are back with their next beginner friendly Adult Acting course, beginning on Sat 18 January! Boost your confidence and start your acting journey with this fun and challenging eight week course.
- Artists and makers interested in working with marine plastics and beach-found objects can join the Scottish Islands Federation for an online Skillshare and Networking event on Tue 21 January, aiming to build a collaborative, creative network across the country.
- Pick-up a new skill this year and learn to sew with Andie’s Sewing School! Complete beginners can join their five-week Introduction to Sewing class from Wed 22 January to get to grips with the basics.
- Spend a Saturday making your very own silver ring and learn how to texture, saw pierce and solder with Dundee Community Craft at their next workshop on Sat 25 January.
Opportunities
- Apply before Fri 17 January for Wee Grants for Creativity in the Scots Leid from Hands Up for Trad, offering up to £700 to individuals, community groups, or organisations producing audience-facing creative work in any Scots dialect.
- Rosie’s Disobedient Press and writer Maria Fusco have teamed up to offer four Working-class writers bursaries to support the ongoing practices of working-class writers with £500 and a feedback meeting. Applications close Sun 19 January.
- Scottish Youth Theatre are seeking six Young Artists for Trajectories – a fully supported early-career artist development programme, delivered through in-person and online workshops, masterclasses and rehearsals. Apply by 6pm Tue 28 January.
- Creative Carbon Scotland are offering ten bursaries to support freelancers in the creative and climate sectors to attend the SPRINGBOARD online assembly in March. Applications close Wed 29 January.
Exhibitions
- Submit your everyday objects for City Flowers Garden Studio’s developing exhibition ‘Existence: A Multi-Dimensional Experience’. They’re looking for any objects with a connection to time and they can be dropped off with a short written statement on Thu 16 or 23 January.
- Original Copy x The Lowdown present ‘Hands Up: A Love Letter’ exhibiting work from Lauren Bloor and Molly Rigby that pays homage to the transformative power of nightlife and club culture. Join them for the opening night on Fri 17 January.
- Now showing at DCA; ‘Soft Impressions’ from artists Helen Cammock, Ingrid Pollard, and Camara Taylor, a major, cross-generational exhibition exploring the artists’ shared engagement with printmaking and its role in the distribution of ideas about race.
- Vending at Volk Gallery until Fri 7 February; ‘Wee Beasties’ from illustrator and printmaker Lauren Morsley brings you interactive beastie kits with dancing bug decorations and everything you need to make your wee beastie shine!
