Inspired by listening practices happening elsewhere, Dundee Radio Club is a pilot project for sonic attunement in Dundee – a community radio station for listening together, sharing sounds and opening ears.
Following a hugely successful open call for material, they’re now ready for their first digital broadcast taking the form of a 48-hour listening festival between Fri 7 and Sun 9 February.
With more than 80 contributors from across the globe alongside familiar Dundee names – including Hot Chocolate Trust, Sîon Parkinson, Le Freak Records, Erin Farley, Creative Chit Chat, Sean Wheelan and more – they’ve collated a hugely varied programme for listeners to enjoy.
Dundee Radio Club have many wonderful sounds to share, with submissions received from across the globe (Brazil, Georgia, Norway, Indonesia, Chile, Portugal, Austria, America, France, Sweden, Spain!) alongside many from closer to home that they’re excited to beam out from their little digital base in Dundee. The 48-hours will explore themes and topics including animal infrasound, the Atacama Desert in Chile, the chaos and calm of seasonality in Georgia, heckling and its surprisingly soothing links to Dundee and civic strength, a good representation of sonic sci-fi, choral contributions, and original music and mixes from bands, musicians and djs based in and around Dundee.
This collaboration between curator and producer Becca Clark and sound artist, musician and producer Su Shaw was made possible through our Amps network’s Community Ideas Fund.
Everyone in the network can choose which project they’d like to award the fund to at our annual Amps Forum with the cash award funded by Amps subscriptions each year. Applications are now open for the 2025 Community Ideas Fund – join Amps and help us make the fund bigger and better!
