- Take home a miniature, handmade quilt by artist Amy Jones from her current exhibition Where’ve ya been, Hen? at Volk Gallery until Fri 9 August.
- Join artists Jacqueline Goodall, Monica Lucia Madas, and Shona Inatimi as they open the doors to their studios for 209 Studios Open Weekend from Fri 16– Sun 18 August.
- Head to Hospitalfield on Sat 17 August for this year’s Summer Festival including a live music programme from Dundee musician and artist SHHE, featuring Harry Górski-Brown, Naafi and more.
- GENERATORprojects are searching for three Dundee-based artists for a new project exploring art work as work with participating artists paid to work, rather than for a finished outcome. Eligibility restrictions apply and applications close on Sun 18 August.
Events
- Join Dundee Ceramics Workshop on Sat 10 August for a FUNdraiser with taster sessions, music, prizes and more, and help raise money to keep this wonderful creative space open!
- The Scottish Working Class Network are hosting their first Dundee event at GENERATORprojects on Wed 14 August. Join them for an evening of relaxed networking and talks from three local, working class artists.
- The Dundee Artists Database (DAD) are hosting the very first Daddycon on Tue 20 August! All DAD artists or anyone interested in joining the database are welcome to join for silly daddy-based fun and the chance to mingle with artists from all disciplines.
- Art Night Dundee are (re)launching the organisation with a new work from Dundee-based artist Inefficient Solutions! The North Carry on Up is a public, participatory project taking place on Sat 24 Aug with more details on how to get involved coming soon.
Workshops
- Join Neuk Collective on Tue 13 August for a free Access to Work online workshop with Jamie Hale of CRIPtic Arts, exploring available support for disabled creative freelancers.
- Explore the sharing and telling of stories through movement, presence, and team building at the Joy of Storytelling Workshop with Dundee Changemakers Hub on Wed 14 August.
- Join Verdant Works on Tue 20 August for an afternoon of petals and colour galore to create your very own flower crown! A relaxing, hands-on workshop that’s perfect for all ages.
- Jeweller Kirsten Manzi is back at Dundee Rep for a series of Ring Making Workshops taking you through the ring-making process step-by-step. Join them on Fri 23 August and enjoy a delicious meal alongside the workshop.
Opportunities
- Exciting opportunity to join the Creative Carbon Scotland team as their new culture/SHIFT officer, supporting culture-climate collaborations with events, resources and cultural partnerships. Applications close Sun 11 August.
- Calling all young musicians! The Sound of Young Scotland Award is open for applications until Wed 21 August, apply now for the chance to win a funding package worth up to £10k towards the creation of your debut album.
- ScrapAntics have six studio spaces available at their new ArtAntics community studios. Join them for a viewing and tour of the studios on Thu 22 Aug to find out more.
- The newly launched Selkie Awards celebrating Scotland’s independent comic scene, are now open to submissions! Submit your comics and graphic novels before Fri 23 August.
Exhibitions
- Head to the Lamb Gallery from Sat 10 August for Coupar’s Camera, a new exhibition exploring the work of Dundee photographer Alex Coupar, charting the faces and places of the city and beyond.
- Interdisciplinary artist Jem Mellor shares an unusual collection for the latest Nomas* Projects exhibition, Stuff I Found on the Floor, running until Fri 29 August with a free online Artists’ Talk on Mon 19 August.
- Celebrate the creativity of this year’s postgraduates across fine art, comics, animation and more at the DJCAD Masters Show from Sat 24 August – Sun 1 September.
- Visit Gallery 48 for the current exhibition by Oscar Moreno featuring stunning Venetian plaster artworks.
