- ScrapAntics are hosting a City Play Forum on Fri 4 October, open to all who want to explore what Dundee could look like if the power of Play was truly recognised.
- Face the Music’s Songwriters Night returns on Sun 6 October with a stellar lineup featuring Dan Faichney, Archie Dye, and Monooka. Tickets are £6 or £7 on the door.
- It’s time for our next Amps Meet-Up! Amps Supporters can join us at Hapworks_00 on Tue 22 October to catch-up and connect with other artists, designers, makers and doers in and around the city.
- Book your place now for the Dundee Culture Summit on Tue 5 November. Take part in a day-long event exploring Dundee’s current cultural landscape and what it’s like to work and create in the city.
Events
- The University of Dundee’s Festival of the Future returns from Wed 9–Sun 13 October with a packed lineup of workshops, exhibitions, talks and more exploring this year’s theme, Connections.
- The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival begins on Thu 10 October with a huge array of events taking place across Scotland including Dundee and Angus events from DCA, Angus Ceilidh House, How It Felt and more.
- Take One Action are coming to Dundee from Sat 19 October with Music & Resistance: Here, There, Everywhere, a trio of events curated by artist and producer Saoirse Amira Anis.
- Join Dundee’s Changemakers Hub for a special Whitfiled SOUP on Fri 25 October! Enjoy some soup and hear presentations of creative ideas to benefit the community. You can also submit your ideas for pitching on the day until Mon 14 October.
Workshops
- Learn the art of pinhole photography and build your own DIY camera with artist Niamh Mitchell at City Flowers Garden Studio on Sat 5 October.
- The Acting Lab are back this autumn with another round of their sell-out Improv Workshops! Boost your confidence and creativity across an eight-session course beginning on Wed 16 October.
- Black writers and writers of colour are invited to join the Scottish BPOC Writers Network on Sat 19 October for the Writing Our Visibility workshop with filmmaker and writer Rhiannon Mudaliar exploring mental health, creativity and visibility.
- Join Dundee Community Craft on Thu 24 October for their eight-week Beginners Jewellery Design Course and get to grips with the first steps in metal work, designing three of your own pieces.
Opportunities
- The Keiller Centre want to hear from artists and creators interested in popping up in some of their empty spaces from October to December, offering affordable spaces to showcase your work and reach a wider audience. Get in touch as soon as possible if you’re interested.
- Diverse Critics from Disability Arts Online and The Skinny is offering six writers and aspiring art critics who are disabled and/or BPOC an accessible development opportunity including a £1500 bursary. Applications close, Mon 7 October.
- Hospitalfield are searching for freelance artist educators whose practice is based in drawing to support their Free Drawing School programme which aims to create a safe space for creativity and reduce barriers to arts and culture. Apply before midnight, Sun 13 October.
- VACMA is back! Applications for the first round of this year’s Visual Artist and Craft Maker Awards close on Tue 22 October with bursaries of £500 and £1000 available.
Exhibitions
- Join Generator Projects to relax in their living room and explore what being a working artist looks like in exhibition Residence Residence, running until Fri 4 October with a closing party on Sat 5 October.
- Showing at Nomas* Projects until Thu 10 October, Being Present by Paola McClure explores the artist’s personal contemplation on the nature of being and on the process of bringing something into being.
- Drawing Projects UK brings together fourteen painters from the UK and Europe for G.R.I.T: a painting exhibition bridging Europe. Book tickets to visit the exhibition before it closes on Sat 12 October.
- Cooper Gallery return to The Ignorant Art School from Fri 18 October for Sit-in #4: Outside the Circle, an exhibition and event programme inviting you to witness and respond to radical collective action inspired by intersectional feminist and queer movements.
Content
- Dundee Changemakers Hub have shared their Manifesto, shaped from conversations with over 170 people at events across the city and aiming to reflect people’s aspirations for a better tomorrow.
- The public vote for The Scottish Album of the Year Award is open until midnight, Wed 2 October, so act quick to vote for your favourite from an incredible lineup including Dundee’s Theo Bleak!
- Soon-to-be parents are getting a helping hand on bonding with their bump with new book Hello in there Wee One, created as part of a partnership project from DCA, University of Dundee, NHS Tayside, Dundee City Council with illustrations by designer Louise Kirby.
- Dundee Community Gardens Network have unveiled their shiny new website, making it even easier to get involved with your local community garden and connect with these wonderful creative spaces.
