- Enjoy Dundee Rep’s Scottish Showcase from Thu 6–20 February! Theatre, comedy, improv, music, live painting – with productions that feature the hard work of local folks including Dicebreaker: A Live D&D Adventure and Jekyll & Hyde: A One-Woman Show.
- Spend your Valentine’s Day with Elfie Picket and special guests Gary Robertson and Lesley Benzie for a night of heartwarming Scots poetry and performance at Blether on Fri 14 February.
- Little Jupiter has got big plans for a Wee Garden Library in the new Sanctuary Garden on Court Street and they’re now looking for donations of books and zines to help populate the library before its launch in March.
- Dundee Heritage Trust have partnered with International Garden Photographer of the Year to launch Dundee’s Heritage and Nature competition, calling on local photographers to capture the impact of industrialisation on the city’s nature. Submit your photos by noon, Mon 10 March.
Events
- Avant-garde, science fiction punk trio Dr. VZX Moist are celebrating their tenth anniversary with a gig at Art Antics on Fri 7 February, alongside Cruise Elroy and Dundee’s Portable Heads.
- Shaper/Caper will be at V&A Dundee on Sat 8 February for a special in conversation event coinciding with their ‘Queer & Now’ exhibition at Hapworks_00. Hear from five of the creatives behind the exhibition and learn more about their creative practice and work.
- DJCAD are offering a limited number of public tickets to hear renowned printmaker, painter and sculptor Ade Adesina speak about his work as part of their Contemporary Art Practice Speakers Programme on Wed 12 February.
- Neuk Collective are diving into the challenges of perfectionism on Sun 23 February at their next ND Artist Meet-Up – a chilled monthly online space for neurodivergent artists to meet and share.
Workshops
- Join Dundee Changemakers Hub for two free workshops on Thu 6 and Thu 27 February led by storyteller, audio producer and facilitator Kaska Hempel, exploring how to demystify conversations around climate justice.
- Cat lovers and crochet makers – join Cake or Dice and Tea Leaf Thief on Thu 13 February, and learn how to Crochet a Cat Toy for your favourite furry friend.
- Screen print your own t-shirt or tote bag with Yolla Studio at their hands-on workshop on Sat 22 February. All materials provided or bring along your own item to print on!
- Discover the art of pinhole camera photography during a one-day workshop with photographic artist Kit Martin on Sun 23 February at DCA. Build your own cardboard camera, take it for a spin, and try your hand at developing your photos!
Opportunities
- Applications for the Scottish Hip Hop Bursary 2025 are now open with grants between £500 and £1,500 available to support artists developing their practice and testing new ideas. Apply before Fri 21 February.
- Artists from refugee backgrounds can now apply for Arts Open, an initiative to help artists show their work as part of Refugee Festival Scotland. Applications close at noon, Tue 25 February.
- Forgan Arts Centre is looking for confident and experienced Lead Artist(s) for bold new project ‘Queering the Clachan’, aiming to improve the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ people in North East Fife. Apply by midnight, Sun 2 March.
- We Are Here Scotland launched their Directory, a searchable database of Black and People of Colour creative and cultural professionals in Scotland to better enable networking and working opportunities. Get in touch to add your details to the directory or browse to work with members of We Are Here’s community.
Exhibitions
- If you missed the brilliant ‘Edition 5’ exhibition from Dundee Print Collective when it popped up at Hapworks_00 last year, you can now find each of the prints on display at Sharing Not Hoarding in Slessor Gardens.
- Generator Projects are back with their annual ‘Members’ Show‘, opening with a party on Sat 15 February and including a wide range of work across mediums from their talented members! They’ll also be hosting a celebratory performance night on Fri 28 February, keep an eye on their Instagram for more details.
- Now showing at Nomas* Projects; ‘Metaphorical Cells: Between Memory and Matter‘ by artist Jillian Lee Adamson, features a series of intricate embroideries which transform needle and thread into Metaphorical Cells. Running until Thu 13 March.
- Visit DJCAD’s Tower Foyer Gallery for new exhibition ‘Reframing the Muse‘, examining the evolving role of the female body as a subject in art to convey stories of desire, identity and power. Running until Fri 28 March.
Content
- To mark Dundee’s first official Year of Kindness, throughout 2025 Dundee Volunteering and Voluntary Action are celebrating the people and projects that support their communities through kindness, compassion and hope. Follow along as they spotlight each of Dundee’s wards across the year, promoting opportunities for you to get involved with different projects and groups.
- Game designer Claire Morwood shares a behind the scenes look at how she created the intricately, handcrafted art for her recently released game and album ‘Asterism’!
- Ahead of their 48-hour listening festival, Dundee Radio Club’s Becca Clark and Su Shaw have been chatting to The Skinny about the amazing response to their open call and what to expect from their first broadcast.
- Alongside additional partners, DCA, Louise Kirby and Vicky Armstrong recently brought ‘Hello in there, Wee One‘ into the world, a book sent to all parents-to-be across Dundee. There’s also now a Dundonian edition, and you can hear a wee peek of ‘Hiya in there, Wee Bairn‘ from Elfie Picket’s Taylor Dyson.
