- Join City Flowers Garden Studio for Unplugged at the Garden Studio, an intimate evening of song and spoken word with local artists and musicians on Fri 18 April.
- The Creative Chit Chat podcast is back! Designer Ryan McLeod chats to creative folks in Dundee and shares their conversations. First up in the new season is Fraser Smith of coffee brand EH9 and designer Camillo Feuchter.
- Illustrator Lauren Morsley recently completed a gorgeous new mural on Milnbank Road in collaboration with Dundee Changemakers Hub and Uppertunity! Pop by to see it in person or read more about how it came to life in a new blog from Changemakers Community Journalist Hollis Crowe.
- Save the date to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Open Studios North Fife from Sat 3 – Mon 5 May! Visit and chat to 95 artists across the area including Tayport-based jeweller Genna Delaney.
Events
- Jutebox are heading off on their first headline Scottish tour – catch them in Dundee on Sat 12 April with support acts Triple A’s and Roomfore!
- Support the city’s indie record shops for Record Store Day on Sat 12 April and head down to Le Freak Records, Thirteen Records, and Assai Dundee to celebrate with giveaways, live DJ sets, and limited edition releases!
- The Scottish Youth Music Exchange and Tinderbox Collective are gathering at Caird Hall on Sat 12 April for a day of musical celebration with youth music groups, bands and ensembles, culminating in a mass performance featuring over 100 musicians.
- Museum anthropologist and polar specialist Henrietta Hammant joins Dundee Heritage Trust on Sat 26 April to share breathtaking examples of Art in Antarctica and artistic responses to the icy continent.
Workshops
- Head to the DCA Print Studio on Sat 19 April for a full-day Intro to Screen Printing workshop and learn how to create wonderfully colourful and graphic prints using hand-cut paper stencils.
- Join Generator Projects on Sat 19 and 26 April for reading and writing workshops exploring the Palestinian Resistance where they will gather to discuss the work of political, cultural and literary figures of Palestine and explore writing tools from anticolonial, abolitionist and revolutionary speculative fiction.
- Dundee Ceramics Workshop have teamed up with Blend to host a cozy, chilled-out mug painting evening on Wed 23 April! Enjoy a coffee and cake while you paint your dream mug, handmade by the DCW team.
- The Acting Lab are ready to take your acting to the next stage with their new Adult Acting Intermediate Course from Sat 26 April – a great way to level up your skills and build professional techniques.
Opportunities
- Local artists, designers and makers interested in selling their products in The McManus Shop have the opportunity to Meet the Buyer at McManus on Tue 15 April to showcase their work and discuss wholesale opportunities.
- Visual Arts Scotland have opened applications for the Inches Carr Craft Creative Development Award 2025, designed to enable artists to develop their practice through innovation, new materials and techniques. Apply for this £5k bursary before 5pm, Fri 25 April.
- Forgan Arts Centre are currently searching for a Curator to join their team, leading their new residency programme and developing their programme of artist commissions and seasonal events. Applications close at midnight, Sun 27 April.
- The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival is seeking proposals for four small artist commissions in response to this year’s theme of ‘Comfort & Disturb’. Submissions are open to artists across Scotland working in any discipline, and applications close at 6pm, Fri 9 May.
Exhibitions
- Now showing at Nomas Projects, ‘Bare Bones‘ by artist Susie Rose Dalton explores clay as a record of human experience through three unfired ceramic pieces. The exhibition runs until Thu 15 May with an online Artist Talk on Sun 13 April.
- Experience the dreamscape with Generator Projects and ‘Invitation to Drift‘, a brand new collaborative exhibition from artists Martha Mazur and Kem Frances. Running Sat 12 – Sun 27 April.
- Vending at Volk Gallery until Sat 3 May, poet and zine maker Nazaret Ranea exhibits ‘My Men & My Woman‘ – a set of twin poetry and collage zines exploring love, loss and memory.
- ‘Design, Dance, Play‘ at V&A Dundee until Sun 27 April with a duo of interactive installations that merge play with design, turning you into a game creator and bringing nostalgic dancefloor memories to life.
Content
- STUC and its creative unions are working to develop a Fair Work Charter for the creative industries, gathering information and personal stories from creative workers to help strengthen their campaign with a particular interesting in hearing from those working as creative freelancers. Complete their anonymous Fair Work Survey before Fri 11 April.
- Dundee musicians and sound makers Rachel Simpson, Claire Gorman and Seth Bennet are joining together as new band Loom – enjoy a lovely preview of what they’ve been creating.
- Each month Dundee’s UNESCO team will be spotlighting a UNESCO Object of the Month from across the UNESCO Design Cities Network! This month you can pop to Central Library to view and find out more about Dundee-based designers No Comply and their colourful Bottle Opener.
