- Join new band on the block Loom (made up of Dundee-musicians Rachel Simpson, Claire Gorman and Seth Bennet) and Haystack Monolith for an afternoon of weird folk music on Sun 8 June.
- Generator Projects and the Scottish Working Class Network are searching for three Scottish working class writers or artists to share their work in a new publication launching this summer. Submissions close Fri 27 June.
- Dundee Rep are looking for Tayside artists and makers with either handmade or locally produced products across crafts, art, jewellery, textiles and homewares for their upcoming summer Craft Market. Applications close Mon 30 June.
- Discover over 700 pieces of public art on a Public Art & Design Walking Tour with University of Dundee Museums curator Matthew Jarron, across multiple dates in summer.
Events
- Dundee Book Festival has arrived! With over thirty events from Thu 12–Sun 15 June, the festival features an impressive line-up of world renowned authors and familiar local favourites.
- Discover the world of Dundee filmmakers at new free film festival Dundee Cinéma les Auteurs from Fri 13 to Sun 15 June, showcasing an array of films from local filmmakers at all stages of their career.
- Writer Sam Gonçalves is launching his new book How Does Change Happen? in Dundee! Join him and a line-up of speakers on Tue 17 June for a night of provocations and readings.
- Viola da gamba player Sarah Small is touring with a difference, cycling from venue to venue for her ‘Good Again?’ tour, and arriving in Dundee on Sun 22 June for an intimate performance at the Chaplaincy.
Workshops
- Happy Pride Month! Ahead of Dundee Pride on Sat 14 June, join V&A Dundee for their Plant the Power workshop on Sat 7 June and create your own seeded pride badges, placards and patches inspired by their Garden Futures exhibition.
- Artist Jill Skulina is saying goodbye to her ceramic Flying Fucks with a celebratory Farewell Flying Fucks workshop on Sat 14 June, where you can hand-build your very own winged-expletives.
- Head to the Hub Library on Sat 14 and 28 June for Embroidery in Solidarity with Palestine sessions with Arts Workers for Palestine Dundee. No previous experience required and materials will be available to join a collective embroidery project.
- Complete beginners can get messy and hands-on with clay at Dundee Ceramics Workshop’s intensive Handbuilding Taster day-course on Sun 22 June.
Opportunities
- The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival are offering grants of £750–£1,250 to support regional participatory arts projects that engage with the theme of this year’s festival. The Regional Participatory Arts Fund is specifically for projects in Dundee, Aberdeen and smaller communities. Applications close Wed 18 June.
- The International Festival of Stone will be coming to Dundee next year and they’re looking for artists and makers working with stone to be involved in shaping the festival and sharing their work. Get in touch before Fri 13 June to find out more.
- Present Futures festival have announced two exciting Associateship Artists Bursaries for Dundee and Angus emerging artists. Visual artists interested in Risograph printing and dance/movement artists looking to develop a performance idea can apply before Sun 22 June.
- Artists and communities across Scotland are being given the opportunity to help inform the independent Review of Creative Scotland at a series of roundtables this summer. Get in touch to be involved with the Dundee roundtable on Mon 16 June.
Exhibitions
- Don’t miss Dundee Art Society’s Summer Exhibition and Art Sale before it closes on Sat 7 June, and discover an incredible array of artwork from their talented members!
- Showing at Nomas* Projects until Thu 3 July, ‘Content Content‘ by multidisciplinary artist and 2024 Nomas* Graduate Prize winner Brooke Milliken, explores the often disjointed journey from the world of art school back into real life.
- Celebrate the design innovation at the heart of Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital at V&A Dundee’s free exhibition ‘Ninewells Hospital: Care, Community and Innovation‘, running until Sun 14 September.
- Experience Mella Shaw’s immersive ceramic installation ‘Sounding Line‘, exploring the devastating effect of marine sound and sonar pollution on whale species – at the McManus until January 2026.
