- Dundee’s infamous polar bear, Bruin, arrives at Volk Gallery for their December exhibition from illustrator Cara Rooney! Pick up your own polar bear explorer badge and ‘no bear in a box’ decoration until Fri 26 January.
- Yalla Riso are generously giving their time and resources for free to produce prints for designers, artists, activists or anyone who needs works printed in support of Palestine.
Events
- Join Cooper Gallery and The Otolith Group on Thu 7 December for their final DXG event, DXG #6: Thinking with Improvisation Critically; an experimental music and sound performance featuring Maria Chávez, Lore Lixenberg, Elaine Mitchener and Shiori Usui.
- There’s still a few days left to join the global 16 Days of Activism campaign, raising awareness and taking action against gender-based violence. Find out what’s happening across Dundee until Sun 10 December.
- Join Dundee Arts Workers for Palestine and GENERATORprojects together for a series of film screenings in the spirit of cultural exchange, learning, and solidarity with Palestine. Screenings will take place on Tue 12 and 19 December.
- It’s time for the last Hotchpotch of 2023! Join them on Wed 13 December for the usual fun and open mic format with the chance to take to the stage with your own poetry or spoken word.
Workshops
- The team at Ninewells Community Garden are getting into the festive spirit! Join them on Wed 20 or Thu 21 December and learn how to create your very own Christmas Table Decorations.
- Join sustainable florists Branches & All for a special family festive workshop at V&A Dundee on Sat 16 December! Suitable for 7+, you’ll get to make your own festive table arrangements while enjoying some hot chocolate and treats.
- Get your New Year off to a flying start with a fun, friendly series of Improv Workshops brought to you by The Acting Lab! Book now for classes for all levels starting on Sat 13 January.

Opportunities
- Dundee zine makers, GENERATORprojects want to buy your zines! They’re looking for single copies with a focus on contemporary art, Dundee, community, resistance, joy, DIY approaches and more.
- Applications are now open for the third Biome Collective Grant for Digital Creatives! No strings attached £500 grants are on offer for two Scotland-based digital creatives from under-represented backgrounds. Apply before Fri 5 January.
- Visual artists can now apply for the RSA Residencies for Scotland with funding up to £5,000 available and partner venues including DCA Print Studio and Forgan Arts Centre. Applications close Sun 14 January.
- Hands up for Trad have opened applications for the new Wee Grants for Creativity in the Scots Leid, offering up to £500 to individuals, community groups, or organisations producing audience-facing creative work in any Scots dialect.
Exhibitions
- For the very first time, Broughty Ferry and Dundee Art Societies are joining together for their Winter Exhibition! Pop along to Roseangle Gallery until Sun 10 December to enjoy their members’ wonderful work and even purchase a piece to take home.
- Two Nomas* Projects exhibitions to enjoy this month. Visit their poster space before Sat 20 January for ‘Look Up‘, a retrospective of artist Robert Mackee’s powerful work, and head to Ward Road before Thu 18 January for ‘Cosmic Madonna’ from Headway artists Mike Hoyle, Billy Mann, Chris Miller and Mike Poole.
- Visit Roseangle Gallery from Wed 13 to Sat 16 December for ‘Modern Dragons‘ a new exhibition from artist Gordy Craw exploring modern fears and concerns as mythical beasts.
- Multidisciplinary artist Rhona Jack explores the personal histories we attach to
objects through the tender acts of mending and making in new exhibition ‘I Held You Here, In My Two Hands’. Now showing at Verdant Works until Sun 11 February.

- Dundee’s Designer Christmas Trees are back – this year with four new trees created by local designers and artists! Each tree has its own story and is made from 100% reused or recycled materials. Find out more about each design.
